  • Ultimate Compound Technique?

Hey everyone, I'm trying to remove a few small scratches from my trunk lid with ultimate compound. My question is, what would be the best procedure by hand? For instance, should I rub it in horizontally, vertically, or in a swirling motion? Also, how much pressure should I apply and for how long should I be doing this before checking the results?

    Thanks for the help.

Most polishes applied by hand or machine are applied in circular motions to ensure even polishing. You might want to start out with something like ScratchX first. Ultimate Compound is very aggressive.

You may do best focusing on going back and forth across the scratch to cut the edges down, and then finishing in a more circular/random motion.

Try to apply even pressure, not digging your fingertips in.

You can start out with SwirlX or ScratchX 2.0, if you do not have either one on hand then give the Ultimate Compound a try doing a test spot first though.

I would start out by applying it in circular motions to spread the product out over the test spot and then you can continue using circualr motions or use straight line motions.

You want to use a moderate amount of pressure and put a little passion behind the pad. Work the product against the surface for about thirty to forty seconds and then remove the residue using a clean microfiber polishing cloth.

Also be sure to apply a coat of wax or paint sealant to the area you worked in, Ultimate Compound will remove any protection you had on the paint.

          Hey blink

I would rub in a back and forth motion and using about 10 to 15lbs pressure.

You will have to go up to where you stoped your through and gather the left over product at the top and bring it back down to the area where your working on and continuing rubing in back and forth motion.

You will Have to do this 2 to 3 times(going up to gather your product and bringing back down to your work area)just remember dont keep rubbing when there's not much product on your surface.

Just remember that even though your working by hand you can still rub through your clear coat or paint so check your progress often.

I've never used Ultimate Compound by hand but have had great results with the scratchX. Have you got any scratchX? If so try that first or even swirlX since it's not as aggressive as scratchX or Ultimate Compound.

          Hope this helped
