I cannot get the tip of my SS exhaust clean. I've tried Brillo pads and they don't get rid of alot. Here is a pic. I'm specifically just talking about the rounded part on the edge and not the inside of the pipe.
To clean exhaust piping use a polishing powder (Blue Coral Blue Buster or Blu-Job) to remove ‘blue’ from exhaust pipes wet towel and polish, it will not scratch chrome, can also be used on brass and stainless steel.
For exhaust pipe polishing -use a strip impregnated with a metal polish (Luster Strips) (See also Chrome / Stainless Steel Exhaust) protect the exhaust components with a polymer sealant (ZoopSeal)
I agree with the others, fine steel wool and metal polish will yield good results.
I'd say wax after... but it depends on the temp of your exhaust tips vs the flash point of Megs wax.... which is around 200F... of course I dont know if such a thin coating would make a difference anyways.
Ok ill stop blabbing. Post some after pics!

The Flitz Mini Scuff Pad is the equivalent to 1500 grit sandpaper. On scratched headlight lenses, plastics, wood, composite, it sands down the scratched surface to create a more uniform surface. When you begin polishing, the entire surface is being levelled at the same rate. The results are uniform and smooth.
Bronze or Steel Wool Polishing Pal - an all purpose woven and sewn, equivalent to grade # 0000 polishing 6 x 9-inch pads. The metal wool and soft synthetic fibres are woven together to create a strong composite textile. For cleaning glass and brightening dull metal surfaces, these pads are reusable and are designed to easily produce and maintain a professional looking finish. On metal surfaces, the Polishing Pal brightens by removing only the oxidized layer of metal without scratching even soft metals like copper and aluminium.
The Bronze Polishing Pal is excellent for marine and outdoor uses since steel wool fibres can rust or stain exterior surfaces, excellent for hard, high polished finishes - http://www.lustersheen.com/
So here is my first try. I used 00 steel wool and mothers power metal polish. I could not find any of the stuff suggested in a store. Anyway here are a few pics.
