  • New pads and reusing them

With the 2.0 pads i have a few questions.

    1. They are machine washable does this mean you can use them with a different product after you wash it or is it still one product per pad?

    2. Will you get the same results using the 8007 and 9007 with m105, 205 and others instead of using the 2.0 pads?

    3. Is it best to now apply product using the new black 9207 pad? Or is this just a new colour a little change in technology, but as the whole with proper technique works just as well as 9007?

    thank-you

A thorough machine washing and drying does a spectacular job of cleaning out the 2.0 pads so using one with, say, Ultimate Compound one time and SwirlX the next is just fine.

The foam construction of the W8207 pad is identical to that of the W8006 pad although the W8207 pad is, obviously, a bit larger in diameter. The W9207 pad is a bit softer than the W9006 pad. But yes, overall you can expect the same results when using either series of pads.

For the record, the change in foam for the W9xxx series was done to address a sometime skipping issue when using these pads with a rotary buffer. That situation was actually quite rare and only occurred when using a rotary, not a D/A. So it was more than just a color change, but for applying waxes, pure polishes or finishing polishes (like M205) you're good to go with either pad series.

      Thank you Michael.

One more question. Hopefully this is it about pads.

Is the red pad still not recommeneded to be used on paint with the DA - only with rotary like the older pads.

I did a search and found the info on here. Is this still the same with the 2.0 pads that you don't really want to use the red pad or is it safe to use now say with the likes of M80 etc...

Michael already answered you, but I'll say that, yes, I use differen't products with one pad after cleaning the pad. I have some XMT polish. I have XMT 1, 2, 3, & 4. 1 is the least aggressive, & 4 is the most aggressive. I have used 3 & 4 on the same pad during the same session, as well as use 2-3 on the same pad during the same session without a thorough cleaning.

Some may not agree, but I have had nothing but great results doing this. Some of the hardcore detailers may very well use 2-3 pads per step/polish. Unless your pad is clogging up, or getting excessive product buildup, It won't hurt anything to use two products (the same brand) that are of differen't aggressivness, as in 1 & 2, or 2 & 3 on the same pad during a session. I have done this many, many times with the XMT line, although I wouldn't recommend doing this with differen't brands, such as Menzerna & XMT, ect.

Hi guys! Just got my new DA V2. How should I prime ( soft) my new polishing pads before first use?

Sure, why not? Just remember, it takes very, very little. Otherwise, the liquid will fling everywhere.

Read the article by Kevin Brown. Goes into great detail about this.

About the red pad. Is it still not advised to use on the car with the DA?

Or is the new one okay to use now.

New 4" Soft Buff pads should have same life time as Soft Buff 2.0 pads, am I correct on this ones?

Since the foam is the same whether you're talking 4" or 7" pads, yes.
