  • Which Meg's Pads to use with 7424XP?

I've been using 6.5" lake country pads on my PC 7424XP and lately I've been wanting to ty out some of Meguiar's pads.

What pad do you recommended for applying wax? Does this pad cut? Does Meguiar's have a pad that doesn't cut?

What pad do you recommend for polishing out light swirls with Swirlx? How aggressive is this pad?

    Thanks.

Finishing pad W9207. The pad cuts when used with a cleaner polish or compound, not a wax. Perfectly safe.

Depending on the softness of your paint, either a finishing pad or a polishing pad (W8207). Again, the chemical used will also play a part in how effective the paint defect removal will be, not to mention the OPM setting on your DA as well as pressure you place on the DA

Take a look at the chart in this thread to get a rough idea about the comparative aggressiveness of Meguiar's pads compared to LC pads.

Keep in mind that how your paint responds to any pad will vary, as well as the liquid you're using with it, the speed of your tool, pressure, arm speed, etc.

A lot of LC users like to use those orange cutting pads to get a job done faster, but in most cases they're probably overkill - they are close to our W7207 cutting pad and we don't recommend that pad for use on a D/A, partly because of how aggressive it is.

For a couple of quick examples of what can be done with the W8207 polishing pad on a D/A, take a look at this thread and the images from our last Saturday Detailing Class where we demo'd on a battered VW Jetta rental car. Both of these we done using just Ultimate Compound with that pad on a D/A, and the first one was done by a total novice.

I'm a little confused, I saw on the Lake Country website that the green pad was more aggressive than the white pad, but every chart I see puts it opposite! My Auto Detailing Bug is getting the best of me and want to do my Fiance's car. I will be taking pics this weekend.

Not being that hugely familiar with LC pads it does seem that some of them are quite close to each other in cutting ability. In some cases they're probably close enough that how the paint responds is going to be a better indicator of which pad to use when and with which product. This is speculation only, mind you, based on what has been posted about the pads and not from personal experience.
