  • Optimum No-Rinse - 1st time use

Just used the ONR car wash yesterday on my Porsche Cayenne. I have to say, it worked fairly well. I was surprised by one thing, though. My mitt got MUCH dirtier than it does using regular car wash solution, and didn't seem to easily wash out. Any insight on that?

Other than the mitt, it worked well. It looked like I was just washing with water. It's probably not something I'll use all the time, but I definitely like the concept. I used less than half the amount of water I would have used with rinsing, so that's a good thing. Cheers

My mitt became dirtier then normal also. Very hard to wash it out. Overall, I really like the onr.

Must be the lack of water?

ONR is an ionic wash that contains zwitterions (hybrid) [: a chemical compound that carries a total net charge of 0, thus electrically neutral but carries formal positive and negative charges on different atom] This allows the polymers to attach to the dirt and form a molecular bond to the surface at the same time. ONR binds the dirt to the wash media intentionally; so you should change washing media as needed

          Outstanding explanation! :-)

I'm going to have to get one or two more mitts anyway - I was wondering why it was so dirty when the vehicle wasn't really that dirty. Now I got it!

Looking forward to using it again on a smaller car this time. I would say the process didn't necessarily go much faster, only more efficient and - of course - using less water. Thanks for the insights!

Washing out your media in a sink with dawn or palmolive will get the "ONR greys" out.

Is getting the 32oz of this enough if you're only going to use it once and a while?

I use a folded MF towel instead of a mitt for this very reason. I will do the whole car with two MF towels, switching to a new side for each panel.

I use ONR weekly on my car. Works great and is quite easy.

ONR and UQW/UQD and towel dry!

Here's a picture of my car last sunday at cruise night, just had ONR/UQW a couple hours before picture was taken. Last wax job was a couple of months ago and we just got out of a Winnipeg Winter.

And I apologize for the brown tires, I need to find something to clean them up.

                    Great tip, thanks!

The 32oz is plenty for occasional use. You only use 1oz per 2-gallons per instructions on the bottle. Even less for clay lube dilution.

I'm going to start using MF towels from now on.

I do the same. Although I never liked using sponges I find the vaunted Lowe's ProLine grout sponge to be excellent for ONR and other rinseless washes. Picks up the grunge and rinses out clean. YMMV.

Never thought about using a MF towel instead of the wash mitt. Well to late now. The wash mitt is for onr only. Glad I had extras. lol

Recently I saw some black microfiber towels somewhere. Now I can't remember where it was, but I think it was from a link on MOL. I'm going to look for it - they would be great for this kind of work, I think.

The ONR is definitely worth using, but it's a bit of a psychological trick. Since there are no suds, I'm always cringing whenever I pass the mitt over the paint thinking that it just looks so much like only using water. Something I'll have to get used to, I guess!

I used ONR about a month ago and I must agree I felt the same way when I used it!! But it is great stuff!
