  • M83 stains on black plastic?

The other day, I was using M83 with my rotary and wool pad on my truck. Some of the M83 had splattered onto the black plastic steppad of my rear bumper. We had an emergency in the house here at that time and was not able to quickly remove the excess from the steppad. I have tried everything(claybar,w&g remover), but the stains are still there. Is it possible for the M83 to permanently stain plastic, or is there another way to remove it?

You might try M39 - Heavy Duty Rubber & Vinyl cleaner.

I usually use a APC of some kind. My process is wetting any paint above the trim so that the APC does not spot. I spray and then brush for a minute or so with a toothbrush. It may take two or three applications but it will get the job done.

Either of the above should take care of the issue pretty quickly. M83 is a water soluble product so it's a bit surprising that the wax & grease remover didn't fully remove it.

I have already scratched about 947,000,000 hairs outta my head trying to get this stuff off. I'm fearing I will either have to paint the steppad, or buy a new one. Okay, I will give the two previous ones a shot, but I don't know where I can purchase the APC by me.

I do have pics of the steppad, but I guess I don't have enough posts to allow me to post them. Oooooooooops, I just got it, by you guys saying APC, you mean all purpose cleaner. STUPID ME

I also tried a Meg ClayBar. Maybe this pic will help:http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/pho...6/ppuser/11283

Re: M83 stains on black plastic?

Went ahead and started using M39, and (to this point) managed to get about 98% of it off, whewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I do still have some(ever so slight) ghosting stains. You need to look somewhat carefully to see the ghosting, but you can tell that something was there. If I keep at the M39, wil I get the ghosting completely off, or did they make a permanant home in my plastic.

I owe a ton of thanks to you boyz for steering me to this solution. Many thanks bruthers .

You should be able to rid your plastic of it all unless it has truly stained your trim. I would say give M39 another try or two and see hoe much you can get off. What are you using to agitate the cleaner?

Getting the 98% off was just from using M39 soaked on a papertowel with some good rubbing.

Use M39 or APC with a small brush to remove the polish on the trim. Others say Peanut Butter's oils also remove stubborn things in plastic trim. In the future, make sure you tape all areas you don't want polished.

I'm curious how you would clay vinyl trim. All of mine are highly textured and clay would be a nightmare.

Also, is it just me, or have we seen a rash of "I'm using the rotary and...oops!" posts recently?

I would try a little more with the #39. Also in the future, I think you learned the hard way. Tape.
