Any ways, what are the "bonnets" used for??? do I put them over the pads when applying products? ALL products or just certain ones, or what??

    Thanks,
    Rob
    Hi Rob,

The bonnets are typically used for removing dried wax. You need to place them over a clean, dry foam pad. The W-8006 and W-7006 pads work best as they are more dense than the W-9006 finishing pad as it is just to soft to work well for wax removal with a bonnet.

After placing the bonnet over a clean dry pad, set the variable speed setting to the 5.0 setting and run the polisher over the waxed panels with about 5-6 pounds of pressure. The bonnet will remove the wax. You can also reverse the bonnet and use the other side.

Well, I am sure I won't be removing any wax.... So I just apply the products I will be using with the bare foam pads, right??????

      Thanks,

Yes. Some people like to use a permanent black marker to mark the pads with the products they are used with to prevent cross-contamination.

          HELP!!!!

My dual action is not "dual action".... When I first got started this morning everything went beautifully. After about a half hour into the job (but not continuous use) my G100 is no longer circulating. It appears to be making small vibrations, but not spinning in an orbital manner.

I turned it on without it touching the car (to take of all pressure) and it wobbles uncontrollably. Not normal I know, because when I first got it, I turned it on and it was fine.

          Thanks,
          Rob

            Hi Rob,

Depending on the product you're using, and the speed setting the polisher is on, it may or may not rotate but only oscillate. This is especially true at the lower speeds.

At the 5.0 setting, with a slippery product like the #80 Speed Glaze, you will see the pad on the polisher both oscillate and rotate.

The fact that the pad stops rotating is the safety factor that makes this machine very popular. It also limits its ability to remove paint. See how the two things go hand in hand. I'm not saying you don't have a defective polisher right out of the box, but you're not familiar with how this tool operates and to me it sounds like it's functioning correctly.

I turned it on without it touching the car (to take of all pressure) and it wobbles uncontrollably. Not normal I know, because when I first got it, I turned it on and it was fine.

            Thanks,

You should never turn the polisher on if the face of the pad is not in direct contact with the paint. If you do, at the lower speed settings it's not to bad, but at the higher speed settings, (anything over 4.0), it's going to wobble or act like it's coming apart. Thus one of the reason you're not supposed to turn it on unless the face of the pad is in direct contact with the surface of your car's finish.

At the detailing classes we teach each Saturday, when it comes to lessons on the dual action polisher the first thing we teach is to first check your speed setting to make sure it's at the correct setting and next, to never turn the polisher on until the face of the pad is in direct contact withe the surface of your car and to not lift the polisher off the car until you have turned it off.

Not only will the polisher shake and wobble out of control, if your pad is wet with product and you lift the pad off the finish without first turning it off, the polisher will increase in oscillations and rotations very quickly and spray little dots of product splatter all over your car and anything else in the area.

After teaching hundreds of people first hand how to use the dual action polisher and then trying to teach people with the keyboard on this forum and other forums, I can appreciate the benefit of working one-on-one as nothing comes close to hands-on training.

At all our classes, if it's a persons first time, I will place my hand on the polisher with theirs and teach them,

            Arm Speed
            Pressure
            Balance
            Direction

I have met a countless number of people that own and use the dual action polisher that after attending the class they learn they've been using this tool completely wrong. It's not a hard tool to use, but like I always say,

"A little technique goes a long way"

            I'll call you tomorrow.

Well, I did it. I will post pics asap. My routine was

              -Wash with NXT car wash
              -Clayed the car
              -#83 with the 8006 (?) pad
              -#80 with the 8006 (?) pad
              -One coat of NXT wax

I will apply the second coat today. So far it looks great, in comparison....

              Thanks for all the help.

Excellent job on the before & after transformation of your Corvette! It looks like you took your Corvette's finish to its maximum potential and that's what it's all about.
