  • What is the difference between these 2 backing plates?

The first is 9 dollars while the Megs one is 22 dollars. Could anyone explain why there is such a price difference. They both fit the Megs 4" pads I am looking to buy but what do you guys think the main difference is between these backing plates.

    Thanks in advance!

Looks like the 2nd option is intended to be used for sanding with the DA or an air powered DA.

The 2nd disk is the Meguiars recommended backing plate for their new 4" pads, the S3BP. The other disk should work as well. I think either one could also be used for sanding, but the S3BP does have those evenly spaced holes, which I believe are for heat dissipation. The S3BP also comes with a variety of spindle adaptors, making it easy to use the BP with any DA polisher.

The other BP looks it has a drill adapter, which would be really useful for use when polishing headlights.

I think they would both work. As I see it the difference is. One is made by Meguiar's and the other is by Buf n Shine.

Ours was designed to be part of the Pro Headlight Restoration & Spot Repair Kit so it comes with a variety of adapters that allow it to be used with a wide variety of tool brands and types. More importantly, however, it better provides the level of support and flex needed when using it with sanding and finishing discs, when using it with our foam interface pad for that purpose, and for use with our Soft Buff 4" pads. The hook & loop attachment is also an exact match for these items, which could prove quite important when working with small pads.
