  • Claying question...?

So tmorrow im gonna try to do a full detail on my personal ride. It hasnt been waxed/clayed since sept 2009. I got a ticket so i dont have a lot of cash rite now...is there an alternative to claying?? Idk if it needs it but it hasnt been done in like 7 months...Any ideas/tips?

    Tomorrows process:

    1. Wash with Gold Class
    2. Dry with my new Shammy
    3. Apply M205 with an PC XP on a yellow pad...I might have to step it up to UC on an Orange pad (but i hope not)
    4. Finally two coats of Nxt 2.0

Hold on there with step 3.......If you are referring to Lake Country pads then the yellow should only be used for heavy defects and for compounding. The orange pad is one step below that and is used for swirls and such. Basically, M205 with orange first and you could even try M205 with the yellow pad if you want to see how much cut you can get.

I would try going to something like Swirlx after M205 as it is a more aggressive cleaner-polish (even more than M83) and see how that works. If Swirlx fails to accomplish the job then you can try UC. Remember to do a test spot and use the least aggressive method.

BTW, if you are referring to Megs pads then the order you have is correct but for future reference either call them Megs pads or even use their product number.

Back to the main question, there is no alternative to claying. You could test the paint to see if it needs claying or just clay it anyway as you are doing a full detail. Removing even the smallest amount of contaminants will make the job easier and the shine all the better. Everythign else looks good though!

Nothing is mandatory..... can always clay again another time.... But as mentioned, nothing replaces it.
