  • How do I remove road crud?

I am having trouble removing road crud, bumps on the surface of the paint where the wheels kicked stuff up. I have tried bug & tar remover first, then clayed but there are still bumps. What should I use... rubbing compound?

Post a pic if you can. I'm not sure of the definition of "road crud"? Sounds like tar to me but a pic will help get you a better responce.

body solvent. or let the bug and tar remover sit for a few minutes. I also heard someone say WD-40 but I would check to make sure it is ok to use on paint first.

I have used WD-40 to remove tar and it did not hurt the paint. Just keep it away from any rubber, or it will ruin it. I prefer VarSol (paint thinner) to remove road tar. Just clean well with car soap and water after and re-wax.

I have had some good luck with some lightly applied #105 on crud behind wheels....

Mineral spirits and a bit of elbow grease work wonders! Just be sure to stop once the spot is removed because you're probably removing wax as well. I don't think it'll hurt the clear coat or paint. Others may have insight into this.

How long did you allow the bug and tar remover to dwell on the paint? It sometimes needs to dwell for a while to work itself in.

Just dab some on a rag or a shop towel and rub...it'll break down the tar or whatever you're trying to get rid of and you'll slowly see it disappear.
