  • poor wax finish

First off, I want to say I am a meguiars user normally. However Im an expat and I have moved from Malaysia ( plenty of meguiars ) to Qatar ( middle east no meguiars yet ). I have always practised the 5 step method on my previous car and its has done wonders despite the tropical heat.

I have a brand new metallic blue merc..no swirls thank god and I attempted to wash and wax it.
washing was fine- followed the method I learnt from the 2 bucket method.
    dried the car

surface not so smooth as previous car but still good. waxed the surface with a thin layer, waited 30 minutes ( detailed in the shade ).

checked the wax has become a white dust haze ( finger test - fine )

tried to wipe it off with microfiber and it was difficult. despite it supposedly being dry the micro fiber cloth felt damp and there was patches of wax residue left on the car. had to use a damp applicator with water to soften it to wipe of ( no QD ).

the surface even where it had come off easily shows great resistance when you run your finger or a dry cloth over it. in fact worse than before.

so anyone have any ideas what just happend and why ?
the wax i used was well shaken. i dont think it was old although it felt more liquid than im used to ( nxt gen wax )..

    thanks in advance.

BTW - meguiars ....please please get your products out here to qatar or tell me who sells them here.. the desert environment is harsh and I dont want my brand new ride to look like a has been.

    Re: poor wax finish

    1) possibly you let the wax dry too much ?
    2) maybe the environment is very humid and the MFs really are damp?
    - which would make it harder to wipe/buff ?

      Re: poor wax finish

If the surface was rough before you started, it certainly wont help with wax application/removal.

Obivously clay and a cleaner would help, but not sure how easy it would be to import anything.

        Re: poor wax finish

From your description. A claying is needed. As Murr stated. A smooth surface will aid in the removal of wax.

I would give your car a another detail.
        wash
        clay
        wax
I bet the results will be better then you last attempt.
