  • No garage, where to detail?

So I've been reading a lot on the forums lately and have recently bought products to start my first exterior detail. There is on problem that i can't seem to find a solution to on the forums.....I have no garage or carport so I'm at a loss as to where I should detail my car. I figure waking up early in the morning still wouldn't give me enough time for a full wash/clay/polish/wax etc. Maybe I could buy a mobile carport? Anyone have suggestions?

What area do you live in?

    Dealing with temperature, sun, both?

Try to get the job done before dark. If that is not possible, then you can always go back over the car the next morning. If you can't do a complete detail in one days time, don't sweat it, leaving it out overnight won't yield a catastophic result unless there is a snow storm, or a hurricane or something. You can always buy a canopy if you have a place where it can be left for an extended length of time. (permanantly)

Try and get a canopy. One of the easy up type. They can be operated by one person. You can adjust them as the sun moves. Keeping your vehicle in the shade. Completely portable. To store they require a little room.

Northern Virginia. At the moment temperature is great and sun isn't too harsh but i'm sure that will change very soon when summer starts coming along.

Where would I pick up from in the morning? Would you use a quick detailer to wipe the dirt off then just continue polishing/waxing what not?

Absolutely, as long as its just light dust thats settled overnight, a quick detailer and quality microfiber will clean your area just fine to begin again.

Wherever you left off. I have the same restrictions in detailing my car, so I just got into the habit of giving the car a full wash in the morning and maybe polish a few panels before the sun gets too hot. I only clay what I am going to polish. I come back in the late afternoon, quick detail and clay only whatever I felt I could polish before the sun goes down. Next morning and maybe another late afternoon, I repeat the process.

Yeah, just use the quick detailer to dust and re-check your previous work as well. It's the same process I use with writing and recording songs - if you get "halfway through," so to speak, and come back the next day, your ears (or eyes, in this case) are fresh and you might even catch something you missed the day before. It helps the creative process

NOVA, huh? That's where I'm from - although admittedly haven't spent much time there the last 10 years. Humid as all get-out in the summer! I'm from DC area. Maybe there are some storage areas there for cheap you could rent and do your work. Don't know if you're just looking for personal use on the short-term. Cheers.

                    check it

This company lets you custom design a canopy. These canopys (depending on the materials you use) can remain for years. Make sure to anchor it down good.

WOW! That's a lot of helpful information. Thanks a lot for the quick responses. I'll have to pick up a canopy soon.

As a person that used to live in Maryland, I use to wash and dry and then drive to Haines Point and detail in the front area where you first come in after the golf course in the shady areas
