I went to the local BMW dealership this weekend, my cousin was looking for some parts for his 318i. While he was ordering parts I walked around the showroom a little bit. They had a brand new X3 on the showroom floor, and I was AMAZED at how bad the paint was. Swirl marks galore!

Re: Swirls at BMW dealership
We've seen horrible swirls on brand new Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Ferraris, etc. You don't really expect to see these defects on untitled $150,000 or $300,000 or $400,000 cars sitting in showrooms, but it is quite common.
Some high end dealerships do an outstanding job prepping these cars though, so when delivered they're as sparkling and gorgeous as you would hope they would be. But if they sit on the lot for any period of time they get dirty from rain and fallout and a quick wash with less than stellar techniques will mar the finish, so sitting on the lot (or even in the showroom) they may have, um, an issue or two.Michael Stoops

Re: Swirls at BMW dealership
I saw the worst buffer trails on a black BMW SUV sitting at the BMW used car lot the other day.
I wanted to use the bottle of UC I had in the car (I can stop carrying it around everywhere I go; I'm not car crazy.......) along with some Swirlx (yes, I had this one too; I know, I know) and take out those holograms. I was even carrying a couple of foam aplplicators in the trunk.
You driving me crazy Meguiars! Yes, the pun was intended.

But then it could be due to inferior detail training (Management to employees), techniques and or products used.

Re: Swirls at BMW dealership
Seeing swirls on brand new cars doesn't surprise me one bit. If you walk out to the lot and look at all the dark colored cars when the sun is out, it's a pretty horrific site. When you have one guy pressure washing a vehicle (with no soap) and another guy following it up with a dirty chamois (only wringing it out and not using a new one or cleaning it), grinding it into the finish that he just used on the last 15+ cars, you'll see why.
