  • Polishing Stripes

I am curious about how to polish specific types of stripes. I'm thinking of the new Dodge Chargers. The wide stripes that some Chargers have on their hood and the rest of the car seem to be non-glossy. Matte? I was wondering if normal polishing procedures were safe to use since I haven't seen that type of material on any other vehicles.

I've tried to find a picture but it's hard to see what I'm talking about. You'd have to see them up close.

    Thanks

All I did was wash and dry and the matte areas. I did a little test spot with M40 once and it did not work very well, it seemed to smear and not accept the dressing.

Yeah, in the cases that I've seen (unwashed/unclayed): I'll notice swirls/holograms on the paint surrounding the stripe but none (at least visible) on it. So is it best just to tape them off when cleaning, polishing, finishing?

I would tape them off to avoid getting polish or wax on the matte stripe itself, then I would put down a beach towel on the stripe in case any product slings off while polishing or even waxing.

I have an 06 charger with the stripe pkg your asking about. I do as Tuck91 says. I tape them off. As long as you wash the car well beforehand and use the blue painters tape you should be fine. I got NXT 2.0 on a side stripe once and it wiped off and left the stripe pretty much as new. I would be too worried about them. Just watch the edge of the stripe when polishing.
