  • Why 2 kinds of QD?

I see there are 2 kinds of quick detailers: Quik Detailer and Ultimate Quik Detailer. Are these 2 products redundant to each other?

Similarly for Quik Wax and Ultimate Quik Wax.

According to the names, the ultimate ones should be better, right?

Re: Why 2 kinds of QD?

In the case of QD vs UQD, QD is a plain cleaner/lubricant product. This should be used to simply clean smudges, light dust, fingerprints, or as a lubricant while using a clay bar.

UQD on the other hand cleans while also leaving a protective coating that helps to sheet/bead water off of the surface. It also does a little bit more to beautify the paint. It should also be noted that UQD should not be used for a clay bar lubricant.

As for QW vs UQW, they are quite a bit different. QW sprays on but then needs to be applied, allowed to let dry, and removed in a similar fashion to a traditional wax.

UQW on the other hand can be sprayed on and then buffed right into the paint, using a clean towel for the final pass/removal step. It also uses Meguiar's newest and best hydrophobic polymers to sheet and bead water off of the paint - like UQD.

      Thanks, Mark.

So, if I use QD, since there is a cleaner, I should apply wax afterward, right?

Re: Why 2 kinds of QD?

The QD/UQD's are not really cleaners, like a paint cleaner.

They are more like a thin oil/soap solution, to lubricate the surface and safely remove dust without causing swirls. So they also act like a car wash soap, in that they remove as little wax as possible.

Now you certainly can QD then QW/UQW, but just to boost the wax, not cause it will be gone.

The qd and uqd are made to help you maintain your paint.
They help you safely remove light dust fingerprints etc. This gets you back to your just detailed look. Regular qd, or last touch qd diluted 1:1. are also clay lubes. However uqd is not recommended as a clay lube.

It is my understanding that quik wax is a product used for high volume shops. It helps you to quickly get a coat of wax on then move on to the next vehicle.

UQW is a wipe on wipe off. I explain it as giving a boost to your regular wax. You can use this in between regular waxing. It just helps what is there.

You might be thinking X-Press Liquid Wax?

Quik Wax is the red bottled spray wax.

From what I read, you guys are using qd and uqd for the same purpose. The only difference is you do not use uqd as lubricant for clay.

                  Yes, more or less.

Just that one can be for claying, and one has a polymer coating in it.
