  • Gold Class and NXT

Since Nxt is now the best that Meguiars offers, what is the purpose of Gold Class? Nxt is supposed to give that wet look gloss just like Gold Class. It seems that Gold Class has been out classed by NXT.

Gold Class is a blended wax, which contains Carnauba wax. NXT Tech Wax is made with all synthetic ingredients. Each has it's raving fans. Gold Class Wax has been around since the early 1990's and has a strong and faithful following of very satisfied users. NXT Tech Wax was launched just this year and is now the best selling wax in Meguiar's line, and get this, without taking away from the sales of Gold Class!

    That is truly amazing!

It all comes down to personal preference and what looks best in each individuals eyes.

I've found that NXT seems to work a little better but both are great products. I first used Gold Class and then moved onto NXT. The NXT seems to last a little bit longer and in my opinion it is easier to remove. NXT also seemed to do a better job with eliminating the really light swirls. In the end, they are both acceptable. Just depends on how much money you're planning to spend.

I've been using NXT since early spring (Feb or Mar) and have loved the results. 2 years ago I tried the GC and had problems with removal. I put the bottle in the back of the cabinet. Just a few weeks ago I dusted off the GC and gave it a try with the PC for application and removal. No problems with the removal this time. And the depth it added to my black Avalanche was nice . So GC has found its way back into my detailing supplies. Both products have a place in most detailers product lineup.

Just a quick followup question. I've read some post that stated if GC was applied over NXT that GC would remove the NXT. Is that an accurate assessment?

No. Gold Class is a Polish/Wax, not a chemical cleaner or a paint cleaner. If you want to get really into the details, then just the act of touching the finish disrupts the molecules on the surface.

I doubt a thin application of Gold Class over NXT would remove enough to ever be noticeably by the human sense.

I have been using the Gold Class myself, but wanted to get on the NXT wagon, so I bought some Tech Wax. Can I apply that over the Gold Class?

You sure can. After washing, inspect for above surface bonded contaminants and you don't find any, you can go right to the waxing step.
