  • Does my method look correct?

Sorry I'm new to detailing and have a new black 370z. This is the method I plan on using within the next few days and I'm not sure if it is what I should be doing. Anyways this is what I've got:

Wash with NXT Car wash and dry
Clay with quick detailer and dry
ScratchX 2.0 to needed areas and wipe clean
Deep crystal system polish and wipe clean
    Techwax 2.0

The car is relatively new so there is not a ton of contaminates, if this process looks ok, how long would you expect it to take if done by hand and not with a rotary?

Sounds good. I'd say though to use something like swirlX after the clay and before the polish. It's a light paint cleaner. Even though you say it is newer, your paint will still benefit from a good cleaning. As far as time goes, it all depends on your own process. Probably 2-4 hours would be my guesstimate.
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Yeah, even if you prefer not to use a cleaner everytime, after the factory/transport/dealer, etc, a cleaner is usually a good at first.

And remember two thin coats of wax is best.

would the scratchx also be considered a cleaner? I assume it is, except i'm not using it over the entire car?

Yes, ScratchX is a cleaner. Stronger than the SwirlX.

SwirlX is more your general cleaner.

If the car feels and looks pretty good after the claying, and ScratchX spots, you could also consider using the Cleaner/Wax that came with your clay kit, if you wanted to use it up a bit.

            Wash
            Clay/ScratchX
            Cleaner/Wax
            Wax

And then use your polish and wax in the future, until you felt like SwirlX or Cleaner/Wax again for some paint cleaning.

              Looks like a good plan.

              wash
              clay
              scratch-x(in needed areas)
              cleaner wax
              nxt v2.0
Remember to take plenty of pics.
              Good Luck.
