  • Swirl X and Ultimate Compound.

I tried, tried again.. M83 and 205 takes off 80% of the swirl marks, but no matter how much I work on the paint, I cannot get it all clean. So I live in Brazil and I am going to import Swirl X or Ultimate Compound. The question is, it is too expensive to get them both, I don' t know how much I' ll have to pay for taxes, so better to get one of them.

But which one? I am thinking about Ultimate Compound but, the fact that it is one of the most stronger products (if not the most) scares me.

PS: There is also Scratch X that gets btw the two, but the botle seen very small, like half the other two products.

Go with the UC. It (should) cost less and I personally think it outperforms Scratch X and Swirl X. You have to be very, very aggresive to mess up with any of the Mequiars products. I've taken an old hood and tried to screw it up on purpose. It took alot to mess it up. If I remember right your working by hand?

Yes. I still didn' t get my G110v2, it may take another month or two.

Now what I don' t understand it, if a guy uses the UC by hand, and the other by D/A.. does the D/A makes the UC even stronger to cut and mess with?

Remember the amount of "cut" will vary with by application meathod (hand/DA) and by pad choice.

        Maybe this will help:

Re: Swirl X and Ultimate Compound.

If a person were to want to "cover everything" with a product line, they would tend to get either SwirlX and UC, or #205 and #105.

Then #83 would be in between those. Having #83, SwirlX, and #205 would seem like a lot of similar products. Just saying in general of course. Unfortunatley, it can take a little playing to meet your exact needs, which is expensive in other countries. But it would seem you want to move to a different strength of product.

I agree. I also think he'll see 205 and 83 in a totally different lite when he goes from hand to polisher. I can't imagine someones hand doing as good of a job as a PC. Hence the other 20% you are looking for Bluher.

Re: Swirl X and Ultimate Compound.

they are both new cars, but with many many many swirls, and a few deep swirls, and well, 83 and 205 did what they can, so if even that wasn' t enough I probably should do go with the Ultimate Compound.

Oh, As I told you, we don' t have Scratch X here, but we do have "Scratch remover" from 3M, the problem is it is ********, I mean, 3M is famous and all, but there products in here are a shame.. man, look this test, it was made by a famous car magazine.

I also hate their cleaner wax, and the quick wax, and polishing paper.

Life 'd be much easier with Meguiars in Brazil.

Bluher, before ordering any more polishes, wait until your DA and pads arrive. You have not yet really tested M83. You are not getting the best results from it because it is formulated for machine application. You will get significantly better results from M83 (and M205) once you start using it with your DA. You can find several threads in the archives that address how to use M83 properly with your DA.

But if you have to import one more product, then you might as well get M105. M105 and M205 were designed to work together. M105 is stronger than UC and will do a better job at removing swirls, though I personally find UC easier to use.

I' ll get a bottle of Ultimate Compound and maybe buy the G110x2 on ebay. Anyway I am so curious about Ultimate Compound that it is not going to be a bad deal.

Re: Swirl X and Ultimate Compound.

I used SwirlX by D/A several times and thought it was pretty good. But once I tried 205 instead, I was COMPLETELY sold on the stuff. The best aspect is that it stays wet for so much longer that you can truly work on an area for several minutes without reapplying. I think I used about a third the amount of SwirlX I would have used on my entire car. And the 205 SMELLS so much better.

Slightly over-generalizing, but I view consumer SwirlX as really a paintCleaner that happens to also be able to remove minor blemishes (with work). UC is really the consumer product targetted at actual defect removal (assuming your paint is not too super soft).

ScratchX is inbetween them (same as professional 83 is inbetween 205 and 105). For most folks, you dont need every possible product (even though each is perfect for some specific situation), just a nice set of complementary products that cover the range of typical needs.
