  • Unlucky with APC+ on tires

    Hi all

I tried using APC+ and a tire brush to clean my somewhat dirty tires today. Before cleaning, they were a very *slight* brown, and it seems that APC+ did not clean them whatsoever - if anything, it made them even browner/orange.

I used both 4:1 and 10:1. I also sprayed it on both, wet tires AND dry tires just to see if my method was flawed. I'm sorry to say I wasn't satisfied at all. I wish I had some before/after pictures but quite frankly didn't expect this result. I've used APC+ on everything else and it seemed to work, but this makes me a little doubtful.

Any ideas/comments/past experiences are greatly appreciated!

    Cheers!

IMO this is the ticket for brown tires.

I have had similar experiences with APC+. While I truely believe it is an incredible product, there are some things that just need some more punch.

I heard good things about BW as well, thank you.

I was just hoping to cut back on all the task-specific items, and try to use more broad methods, if you know what I mean.

In my experience, you can't always get the tires 100% black every time. Some seem to be better at "coming clean" that others. The ones on my F150 and Neon seem to come pretty well clean. The Mustang, pretty much always some of the brown color there, though just a very slight amount. Some dressing on 'em and it's all gone.

What ratio was the apc+ diluted at? If they are very dirty. Maybe you need a stronger batch of apc+. then after they are cleaned to your satisfaction. You can dial down the concentration of product.

            I used both 10:1 and 4:1.

I second Westley's. At $3.50 a bottle you really can't go wrong, it is extremely effective; you will not be dissapointed.

Maybe you guys can help me out. I thought the "brown" was the UV inhibitors in the rubber and these are manufactured to be constantly re-surfacing.

I thought APC was to clean and allow the dressing to come in direct contact with and be absorbed by the rubber and thereby last longer?

The dressing is what's supposed make it black?

                I hate getting old.....

There are two types of brown on tires - dirt is one, and the UV inhibitors working their way out of a longer mileage tire is the other, and that process is called blooming. Once the blooming process starts it is something that you often fight for a couple of months. I have experienced it with tires from both Michelin and Goodyear. I have never tried anything stronger than Bleche White at full strength on tires during the blooming process. That got the tires almost back to black and then with dressing the tires it made the blooming difficult to notice.

                    I have this same understanding.

I use the Hot Shine Tire Foam on my tires about once a week on both vehicles and I rarely see any brown. If I do it's from the times I haven't been able to get out and work on the cars.

Before I even opened this thread I already knew someone would mention this product.

At $3.50 a bottle, you can definitly do better. That bottle would be empty by the time I would finish washing a muddy F-250.

Super Degreaser is a much better product and is much more cost effective IMO.

                        Tuck91,

Would a super degreaser tackle the tire better than APC+, in your experience?

So, judging by some posts, people have had both positive and negative experiences using APC+ on tires?

Sorry that I was not much help. Yes I have had great success using apc on my tires. I have been using apc for about 3 years . No issues at all.

I only use Meguiars Super Degreaser on extremly muddy and dirty tires. I never use APC Plus to clean tires, I use APC to clean tires that are not caked on full of mud and dirt.

On a tire this dirty, I would use Super Degreaser:

                              Thanks for all the responses.

My tires are not that muddy/dirty at all, but they aren't exactly 'black' either.
                              I will try some degreaser.

                              Thanks to all!
