  • Just Detailed a Dakota!/What is this?!

Happy First Day of Spring everyone

I washed and waxed my truck today. I also polished certain areas, too. I didn't do anything to the hood portion except washing it, today. After I was done, I noticed this on the windshield wiper crest:

It kind of looks like the shape of an applicator pad from waxing... but I didn't notice this before. It won't rub off either, when I used my finger. There are some more pics of it in my gallery to check out. Opinions wanted on the mystery marks, and my work, please.

I couldn't tell what you were talking about when I first glanced at the picture and then I saw the rest of them. That really looks like wax residue to me. Is that plastic? This might sound insane but I was told to try taking an old toothbrush and lightly rubbing in some peanut butter. The Peanut butter has some certain ingrediants that help remove it. Don't go trying it right away, let one of the pro's chime in. I read about this at Off-Topic forums Show & Shine. I'm pretty sure most Meguiars wax doesn't leave that white residue.

I call that a polisher Burn. I really is not a burn but it is wax ... If you have some quick detailer try it just spray on liberally and wipe off the toothbrush thing is a good possibly excluding peanut butter I mean. (I never heard of peanut butter before it might work and it is biodegradable ) Whats there to hurt! just remeber next time when buff or polish take some newspaper or masking tape and cover all the plastic on your vehicle so it does not happen again..

What do you mean by quick detailer...? I guess I'll give the pb thing a whirl.

          Hey,

That looks like dried wax. I have found that using Meguiar's #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl cleaner and a toothbrush will usually remove the residue. The other thing to try is Gold Class Trim Detailer. I have had great luck using it and the aforementioned toothbrush on the trim.

Good luck and keep us posted!

            It's gone!

The peanut butter trick worked. Thanks

After I applied the pb with a toothbrush, I wiped it down with a wet paper towel. It still kind of looked faint, until I dried it with a dry paper towel. Looks like it was never there...

I think the oils in the peanut butter will only cover it up for a while, not acutally remove it. I know RockPick has used the PB trick before so he should be abel to answer definitively.

I was told it removes it all the way. Glad it worked out for you! Hope it stays that way!

What is DACP sling? Those 'white specks' are actually green, and pollen. As soon as you clean it off, it ends up right back on there.

That looks like wax residue, and don't be fooled -- meg's wax does leave white dust in my experience. Since you got it off now, I'd use some Trim Detailer over that area. TD will also help it come off easier if it happens again.

P.S. I'm gonna try the PB trick sometime! Any use for Jelly? That way I could just unfold my sandwich and.....nevermind.

Sorry....I couldn't tell from here. I thought some DACP had slung off a buffer or something.

haha. I used MOTHERS wax. I'm assuming the Trim Detailer is made by Meguiar's...?

I agree with Tim about #39.
