I know nearly all meguiar's products say, "to apply to a cool car in the shade". My question is how important is this? I'm not lucky enough to have a garage or carport. And being in hot Louisiana the only time we get good shade is when the weather is nasty. when it finally does get shady its well to late in the day and darnkess sets in. Would it be best to maybe start detailing the car in the early hours when the sun is not as high in the sky? I hope i dont sound like a dumb dumb asking this but I just was curious.

Welcome to Meguiar's Online!
Good question! Here's the answer. The reason many of Meguiar's products state to apply to a cool surface in the shade is to insure proper product performance. All Meguiar's product are formulated to perform well in a fairly wide range of temperature climates, (that is the temperature where you live), but not on surfaces that are hot and/or in direct hot sunlight.
It's perfectly okay to work on your car's paint in direct sunlight in the morning and towards the evening, but in the afternoon when the temperature outside has rose and the sun is shining down on your car, the temperature can easily rise to over 100 degrees. At this high of a temperature, your products will become difficult to work with because the heat will force them to dry up on the surface. The will dramatically reduce their performance and it tends to make for an unhappy customer.
That's why we recommend applying to a cool surface in the shade.
We also understand that not everyone has a garage, shop or carport to work under. That is a problem. A couple of work-arounds include,- * Working in the early morning
* Work in the evening
* Borrowing the shade off a tall building
I have a large garage, but I use all of the above when I wash my cars because I don't wash my cars in my garage and the sun in the middle of the day causes the water to dry quickly and leave spots on my car's finish.
Hope this helps...
Mike
