  • For the second hand of NXT 2.0

I did apply NXT 2.0 and now I am waiting a few hours to cure, and I want to apply it again, but since I am going to do that tomorrow and I guess 24 hours is time enough to get dust over the paint, even if not "really visible dust".

What I want to know is this, do I need to wash the car tomorrow again before NXT 2.0 or can I use Quick Detailer then wax? I want to avoid swirls and micro scratches. What to do?

A quik detailer would be appropriate.
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

QDing the vehicle would be fine. Use clean MF towels so you won't cause any damage to the paint.

I could consider a time frame of 24 hours for any wax mostly. In between coats, sometimes you won't have that much time (consider if you are working on a persons vehicle) so sometime people give a 20min in between coats

NXT2 or #21 have synthetic polymers that ideally should cure and bond to the paint. The time is exponential, probably 80% complete (my guess) after 1 hour, totally hardened after 12-24 hours.

Carnuba just (slightly) hardens, does not really cure/bond anywhere near as much as synthetic polymers. I would say 80% achieved in 20-30 mins, totally hardened after 3-4 hours.

Never hurts to let either cure for 24 hours, but #26 should be OK for a second coat after 30 mins and really ready after a couple of hours. Many times I wax once, let haze and wipe all around car, then give second coat almost immediately. Not absolutely ideal, but certainly "good enough". In particular, this saves having to worry about washing or UQD to remove dust the next day before the second coat. Much simplier.

Always err on the side of caution. Use the qd of choice before applying the second coat of wax, After waiting 24 hours.
            quality creates its own demand

              Thank you guys!

I used Quick Detailer and applied the second coat of NXT 2.0! Now to avoid problem I guess I am going to college with my sister' s car and let mine rest until tomorrow, then use the M26.

Oh, and just to know, how many times do you have the habit of using NXT 2.0? I mean, people say it last for 3, 4 and maybe 6 months, is that true? What about the carnauba wax? Can I use it every 2 weeks? Or is that going to be too much?

How long a wax is going to last all depends on the cars environment, were it’s kept, what’s in the air, etc...... how you maintenance and all that. Too many variables for a sure fire answer.

I try to wax about every 3 months or so even though I’m still getting pretty good protection.
I wouldn’t be surprised to get 6 months out NXT or 21

You can always do The Squeak Test which is a very good why to tell if you still have layer of protection.
Look here: The Squeak Test - How to test for the presence of wax

You cannot wax too much, it WILL NOT BUILD UP and the only downsides are the product it takes (cost) and the time+effort, and more micro-swirls everytime you work the finish. How long it lasts not only depends on your environment, but how you define "lasts". As the wax wears off, there is still some protection but the "sparkle" visibly dimishes. In "typical" environments most folks say they get around 1+ month for Carnuba and 2-3 months for NXT2. Waxing more often typically really only makes you feed good, but probably has no measureable improvement.

So, I tend to wash+UQW every week, and every month or so I re-wax (typically alternating between NXT2 gloss/durability and #26 warmth/depth). I dont bother to re-detail (clay+cleaner+glaze), I only do a full-detail each spring and fall - unless there is a wonderful saturday morning where I want to spend time enjoying the process and do a detail "just-because". Warning: You first become a "Detail Addict" (you are probably there already), and pretty soon your wife and friends declare you a "Detailing Moron" beyond any help or hope.

Yes, I need to be very carefull not to go that way.

You know what fascinates me the most? Is that few months ago I had a new car but, that was it, just a car that you get new but becomes another car in traffic, another car on the road. But now, even when I go out to buy a pizza or to college, people look at the car and do that "wooww" face, you know?

There is plenty of Honda Civics here, but somehow people don' t care to wash or wax their car, and I don' t know, I feel good since I started learning the art of detailing. To see my car looking its best with all that extra gloss among other cars.

Oh oh, you are infected with the Detailing Disease. No cure.
