  • steps for a novice

I've been researching the forum like a mad man and have some options down but confusion in other area's. I did a previous post about using the UC with a rotary and now I'm going to stay away from that as an option.

I should first state that the clear is in okay shape. The car is a 99 with 70,000 miles - black paint. When looking close it has numerous holograms, light scratches and swirl marks.

    This is the plan.

    1. Wash
    2. Clay Bar
    3. DA with Swirl X with W-8006 pad - making sure product stays wet when applying
    4. DA with #80 with W-8006 pad - speed set at 5 - making sure product stays wet when applying
    5. Hologram light check - if present repeat step 4 with with W-9006 Finishing pad
    6. By hand Deep Crystal Polish with foam pad - MF to finish
    7. By hand NXT 2.0 with foam pad - MF to finish

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

looks pretty good to me, if after doing #80 with the 8006 pad it doesnt finish down ok (remember a honda jazz with soft paint being an example) you wont need to use the 9006 finishing pad with #80.

It all depend on the paint hardness if the defects are light i woud suspect ultimate compound shouldnt be needed.

    Hope this helps.

Before doing the whole car with swirl-x or #80. Why not do a test spot first. This may save you a step.

Thanks guy's. Yes I'm planning on doing a test spot with the SX and #80 before anything. I did a test spot a couple days ago with UC with excellent results but I best to go least abrasive first.

Can you use the DA with NXT 2.0 and Deep Crystal Polish? If so which is the best pad?

I know that NXT 2.0 can be applied, Deep Crystal Polish (DC2) i have used by PC with good results, I found a post with a similar question on the UK forum, pad wise id go with Polishing for DC2 and Probably finishing pad for NXT 2.0.

When doing your test spot(s) try one with just SwirlX and one with M80 as a follow up to SwirlX. You may not need to use both products as they perform similar functions and SwirlX may actually give you a higher clarity finish. Since you plan on using a pure polish anyway this makes using SwirlX and M80 perhaps even more redundant.

Okay here is a new plan.

                1. Clay Bar
                2. Swirl X with 8006 pad
                3. DCP with new 8006 pad
                4. NXT 2.0 with 9006 pad

                Good?

                  Good?
Step 3 above with Deep Crystal Polish: move to a fresh 9006 pad instead since by this point you should have a near perfect finish and you want a very soft pad to apply the pure polish. No sense in using a pad that might be overly aggressive for the process. Follow with NXT 2.0 on another clean pad.

You should be able to get through each step with just a single dedicated pad for each. The SwirlX application is probably better done with at least a couple of pads, cleaning them often as you go.
