  • steel wool

The other day my neighbor was washing/waxing his car and it does a better than average job. He then began to clean the windows to remove water spots, he used 0000 super fine steel wool and began to polish (circular) his windows with it, I was surprised it removed the water marks and did not appear to scratch or haze the windows. Has anyone else seen this?
It seem to work very well on the black back windows.

Iv'e steel wool (0000) alot over the years. Mainly to get rid of the numbers left on the window after an car goes through an auction. It also woks great on removing bug guts off the winshield. I just spray my glass cleaner and then use the steel wool. I have done 100's of windshields like this and have never had a problem.

Some new cars have a permanent water repellant coating applied that works like RainX. Using steel wool or anything really abrasive will damage this coating. Know what kind of glass you have before using anything abrasive.

Good to know. How do you tell if the glass has this coating?
