  • Anyone know what this is and how to get it off?

Hoping someone can give me advice on what to do with these strange white spots on my paint. It is mostly on the trunk and top of the car. When running my hands through it, it feels rough when running over it. Is this possible to take out? Please let me know what I need to use to get this off. Thank you in advance.

This looks like it could be bird poop etching. It may have dried on the car and not been washed off for some time therefore baking it into the finish.

It sounds like etching, but the kind I have seen on my mom's car has never been rought before which is perplexing. It could be that the etching occurred and then fallout was able to bond to the surface causing the rough feeling your experiencing.

It even looks like it could be the start of clearcoat failure in these areas which would make sense because its on the areas of the car that receive some of the most sun and abuse. However, this is much less unlikely than the other options.

When is the last time this car was washed? Has it ever been clayed? Has it ever been detailed previously? I am sure more experienced people can provide more insight than a noob like me can. Good luck!

Re: Anyone know what this is and how to get it off?

Just realized I forgot to mention how to take care of it.....

I would look into gettnig some Scratchx 2.0 and Ultimate Compound. You could try Swirlx but I do not think it will have enough strength for this job.

      I would do this:
      1) 2 bucket wash
      2) claybar
      3) paint cleaner (swirlx, scrachx 2.0, Ultimate Compound)
      4) polish (optional)
      5) wax (I am partial to Gold Class but XT is also amazing)

I would do this process and only work the paint cleaners though into the effected areas. No need rubbing where rubbiong is needed but if the whole car looks like that in the picture then i woudl recommend settign aside a weekend for the job. Working by hand will take a long time. However, if you put in the time, you will love the results (especially if the polishing step is used). Anyway, good luck! again

I second the thoughts on the bird poop etchings.

It has been washed and detailed. It is only on the trunk and top of the car. I have not clayed it. Will follow your recommendations and post back. Here is a Detailing 101 question...what is a 2 bucket wash

After watching the video. You will probably agree it is one of the best ways to reduce the potential of re-introducing dirt, grime to a different area of your paint.
