  • Carrand brushes - safe on the finish?

Hey gang, I saw this brush at the store yesterday http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/crd93039.html and was wondering if the feathered bristles would be safe to use on the paint during a wash?
My ice scraper brush has this type of bristles and I feel ok using it for that, but would this be ok to use on the roof when washing? I have an SUV and it's a pain trying to get up there. Thanks for the help!

No, they would most definitely scratch your paint. Only use it for the wheels!

I only use a similar style brush on the wheels and wheel wells. Never on the paint.

Big Lots carries the turtle wax microfiber chenille mop with a telescoping handle for under $10. That would be a better option than any bristle brush, but you have to watch the handle when sweeping the mop across the roof of your SUV.

Being in Germany, you may have access to the Meguiars brushes still.

You can put in swirls and scratches using a microfiber mitt, 2 buckets, and grit guards. Ultimately it comes down to your application and technique. If somebody rushes through a wash and takes shortcuts, then it doesn't matter what materials are used to wash the car, swirls will reappear.

The mop referenced here is a soft MF chenille. The head of the mop can actually be detached and used as a hand mitt. Using the mop and gliding it across the roof of the SUV should instill no more swirls than if done by hand.

After all, most swirling comes from employing an aggressive, scrubbing, circular motion and using incorrect materials.

Wow, thanks guys! I thought that it would scratch the paint, but they're advertised as a grill brush as well as being safe on the paint if I remember correctly. Anyway, I won't be using one of those on the paint!!

I do have a microfiber "mitt" that wraps around a round plastic piece and uses a telescoping pole to reach the roof. I was only looking for something a bit more convenient, but this isn't it.

I haven't seen any Meguiar's products in any German store anywhere. Anyone know where I could find them? They're 2x as expensive here with the euro exchange rate, so I usually order that stuff on Amazon to pay in dollars and ship to my APO address. Thanks again for all the replies!

Yep! My mop looks exactly the same, except it has microfiber "dreads." It works great on the roof and I can just unwrap it from its plastic frame and use it for the rest of the body.

If you go on there, and go to the shop, enthusiast, accessories, the various brushes are there.
