  • Claying "old" overspray

Hi gang - I've got an Opel Astra that had a rear bumper replaced a while back and after I got it back from the shop there was overspray everywhere. Admittedly, I didn't know how to get rid of it (it was also on the glass, which is where I initially discovered it) and I didn't take it back to the shop.

Anyway, I clayed the car the other day and I didn't even really make much of a dent in the overspray on the finish. I got a lot of it off the glass, but how do I get the rest off the finish?! Is it going to take more claying or a more aggressive clay bar? I used a blue clay bar (not Megs, incidentally) - so I don't know if that means anything. Thanks in advance for any help here! Cheers,

If the overspray is really terrible then you may need to step it up to the red aggressive clay bar that Megs offers. But, this bar will leave some marring or hazing on the paint so additional work will need to be done. A blue clay bar is usually a mild one so if that is not doing the trick moving a step one would be the next step. I am only a novice, but I think there was a forum on here disussing this issue......and I found it http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/sho...ssive+clay+bar

Yeah, the older it gets the harder it will be to remove.

The Meguiars Professional Blue Clay will be a little stronger, and the Red Professinal Clay will be a lot stronger. It is possibe that the Red Clay can mar the finish, so best to try milder options first.

I always have had good results from the c-2000 mild clay. Try it, it should help out greatly. I just remembered this. About a year ago, in the building we lived at. They repainted the exterior. Did not cover anything. On the sliding glass doors they were full of overspray. To resolve this, I did the following. I used #4 heavy cut cleaner with a foam applicator pad. Applied to the glass. Worked it in vigorously. Removed with a old terry cloth towel. The results were great.

Thanks everybody! I should have asked here first, because the other day I already ordered the agressive clay. Not a big deal, but I can polish after using it.

I don't have a DA, so if I use UC after the clay by hand, will that suffice in removing the marring, do you think?

And if it's so aggressive, is it safe on glass?

I guess I could always order the mild Detailer's clay, but since I have an APO address, everything costs more to ship and it takes forever. It's warming up here and I need to get busy!! Thanks all.

Glass is much harder than paint, it will be ok there.

Awesome - that's what I was hoping for.

Any idea if UC by hand will get rid of whatever the red clay will leave behind? Thanks!

Probably..... but can never say for sure.

Try to use the Red Clay with lots of lube ,and as gently as possible.
