  • Simple Green user here - alternatives?

Ok, I'm a cheapskate. I've been using Simple Green for 20 years to clean EVERYTHING. It can be diluted to any level for everything from BBQ grills to carpet and the price is right. But I have one complaint for use in the car that makes me want to change...

The smell is NOT good. If I clean the floormats or carpet, I can smell the stuff for a few days depending on saturation. I want it to smell like Interior Quick Detailer.

So, should I give APC a try? What does it smell like?

Can't go wrong with APC or APC+ (re-formulated for low to no foam for extractors) for cleaning everything!

I mixed a bottle for the house as well as for my cars.

Can't off the top of my head explain what it smells like, been a while since really using it as the winter here has been long.....

I would go ahead and give APC a try, I think you will like it better than Simple green.

APC has more of a carpet cleaner scent to me. APC+ has an orange scent.

Order you a sample of each APC /APC+ from ADS and try them both and see for yourself which one you like best. At $6.49 a sample for each one it's a pretty good deal and on top of that right now rick has a special that any order over $95.00 gets free shipping!

i have used simple green..back in the day when i was a detailing noob. i used it on wheels and honestly it doesnt cut through brake dust very well at all..ever since using APC and APC+ they have become my favorite. meguiars really hit it big with that stuff..they are both really strong cleaners, and will eat through grime, brake dust, coffee stains, melted chocalate stains, prety much anything with ease, but yet still being safe and not staining the surface..ive used APC 4:1 on engines and got them clean with no trouble ! and APC and APC+ really dont smell bad at all..its actually pretty pleasant to work with, never bothered me once. i recommend it..cant go wrong.

If smell is the sole concern, you are looking at APC+ for your detailing jobs. Regular Meguiar's APC has a chemical smell to it as well, though granted, not as bad as Simple Green. If smell isn't a concern, Simple Green works fine.

Here is another vote for apc, +apc+. Both are great products. I like others have a bottle mixed for the house and for detailing.

Obviously APC is a winner and here is another...4U Cleaner. You won't find it in any stores but any RV dealer/parts store can order it. I switched from Simple Green to 4U many years ago. It's a concentrate and 10 parts water to 1 part cleaner will outclean Simple Green on anything. Non toxic, odorless, Biodegradable and dirt cheap!! I sell it in my RV store and customers are blown away at it's results....they actually get excited using this stuff. Our resort's cafe uses it to clean all the stainless steel and tile floors + more. Manager claims it's better than any commercial cleaner he ever used. You vary the mixture based on what you want to clean.

I guess Simple Green is OK but I never found it to work all that well for me. I think if you give APC a try you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Why can't the APC be scented like the Interior Quick Detailer? I hate most scents in a car, but that one is subtle and CLEAN.
