    Does anyone know if a Jeep Grand Cherokee have soft or hard paint

    I have jeep grand cherokee and i'm about to detail it with PC for the first time i'm using LC pad 6" and i have from Yellow pad all the way to the softest which is the RED pad. does anyone know if i should start with an Orange pad go to the Yellow pad first. the condiditon of my truck is that it has a tremendus amount of Swirl marks good thing that it's silver. I know that one has to start from least agressive meaning the orange to most aggressive i just wonder if that depends on how soft the paint is on a car. my question is does anybody know how soft or hard Jeep grand cherokee 2005 paint is

    Unfortunately it's almost impossible to make a blanket statement about paint hardness. It's quite common for manufacturers to change paint systems part way through a model run, or even through a model year, and things can change dramatically.

    What liquid are you planning on using? A safe bet would be to start with Ultimate Compound on either the orange or even white pad and do a test spot, then evaluate your progress before either trying a different pad or finishing the job. The tool should be set to speed 5 and moderate pressure applied.

      I can not comment on the lc pads. However we had a 06 Grand Cherokee. I found that the paint was on the hard side. Now does that mean all Jeeps paint is hard. No. It just means that mine was. This is another reason why I am a firm believer in doing a test spot before starting on unfamiliar paint. Once you dial in a "prescription" then you are good to go.

        I just did a test spot on my friends 98. Used 105/205 with the pc and had amazing results. Full detail to come

          I know all of the Jeep Wranglers I have worked on had pretty soft paint, corrected them with M80 Speed Glaze.

            i'm using the 105 & 205, see the thing is my jeep was a dealer ship floor model it was on floor for display as time went by they moved from the show floor to the lot were it stayed and nobody ever bought it until i came along a year ago and got it for a great deal its a 2005 silver Hemi 5.7 v8 limited with everything but the kitchen sink only thing is i guess just got lost in the lot. The dealers had an odd face on them. wondering how it slipped thru there fingers not selling it with the other year models they keep there. so they offered me it at the lowest bargin. only difference between this year model and mine is, the shape of the stirring wheel in the middle.
            So after it was on floor display for three years before it got moved to the I got lucky. But since it's silver its hard to see how extensive swirl marks are on the paint for the past year i have taken car of the exterior paint all by hand. I it keep beautifully clean and shiny...but not reflective now the with the PC7424xp i hope to get that reflectivity poping jus don't want to mess up the paint

              Sounds like you got a great deal. Go with the 105/205 combo and see were that leaves you. Good luck.

                i have an 08 GC congrats on your ride! 105/205 will work wonders for you. you might not have to go as high as 105. ultimate compound took out all my swirls as well! D151 also works well!!!
