  • Best One-Step Polish For Light to Moderate Defects

    Hey everyone,

Just a newbie here trying to learn about detailing. I'm more interested in "production detailing," so perfection isn't my goal.

I am looking for a one-step polish that will remove light to moderate defects. So, would Meguiar's #83 and a LC white pad be suitable for use as a one-step product? I will be using a Flex #3401 with this combo. The paint in question is either soft Honda paint or the paint on an older Saturn.

    Thanks!

For light to moderate defects, I think M83 would be more than enough. It can actually get out more like moderate to somewhat heavy defects on a DA, and I would think more so on the Flex. You could also try D151. That should remove light to moderate defects, and leave a coat of wax behind too.

By "one step" do you mean essentially a high quality cleaner wax that will remove light defects, polish and protect all at once, meaning you don't need a second application of anything? If so, either D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream or M66 Quick Detailer would be the way to go, with D151 being perhaps the more versatile of the two.

We've used it on very soft Honda paint in the past (a couple of Honda Fits come to mind) with fantastic results. While it is in limited release and will likely be an online order for you, at roughly $35 for a gallon it's a bargain.

By one-step, I mean a polish that does not require a follow-up with a less-aggressive polish to remove any micro-marring.

Good idea on the D151-- I heard it is actually slightly more aggressive than M83 but due to the new SWAT technology, may actually finish nicer?

Yes, though D151 is also contains wax as well, if that affects your decision.

In the few times I have used #151. It has finished very well for a aio. Never had to re-do a vehicle. This was after a test spot first.

While D-151 PRC is a great product, I think M66 Quick Detailer is often times overlooked and is a pretty good and reliable product as well.

If you want a dedicated defect-removing polish that is a sure bet for a safe one-step, M80 is a great product. With M83 you *might* get a perfect one-step on some paints, but some paints may require a second product to remove very faint hologram-type defects left behind.

M205 is also a fantastic product for a one-step job, especially with a FLEX.

Since I'm still stuck in the dark ages, the M80 has been my mainstay for years.
As mentioned, M83 sometimes, (rarely), needed a follow up with M80 for me.
I figured M80 fell into the ancient history class with all the new products now available.
Glad to see I'm not the only one still riding a dinosaur.
                    Great product!

If you like quick and easy, try M80 followed with liquid NXT Tech Wax.

Go with 151 paint recon. This has production written all over it, especially if you wanna go one-shot (Rotary)
