  • Rinsing ROAD GRIME between washes = Swirls?

It's winter and I just rinse my 22 year old paint each time road grime builds and then wash it when weather permits. Then I saw this talking about swirls mysteriously appearing:

"...the car only got washed 6-8 times during this time, due to the cold weather and snow .....But I always kept the road grime washed off (just rinsed off, not "washed")

    Didn't think about bonded contaminants.

What a lot of people dont understand is that the road grime itself can cause the swirling. When you're driving, the cars in front and next to you can kick up dirt/road salt/sand. As the debris hits your car it is essentially bombarding your finish and marring it up so swirls can come from that.

      Thanks Lasthope,

Usually I "feel" the paint for anything stuck to it. In the winter. I just want it to be clean and hose it off when wet dust, etc. dries and builds up.

I am not in "detail" mode, so when washing I might be loosening grit and then sliding it over the finish with the soapy mitt. Maybe I just need to let it go and just wash it.

      Thanks.

Do you dry at all, or just hose down the car?

If it is just flowing water, I wouldnt be too worried, other than water spots.
