Which Car Makes have hard paint?

Ok.. I've been doing a lot of reading and found that some forum users have talked about how the same products/methods can be applied to two different cars with effective or ineffective results.. for example a Geo Metro's paint is easy to clean with a DA and #83 whereas a Dodge Ram gets hardly any swirls removed with the same method because of its "hard paint"

I have a Dodge Charger.. so I was wondering.. In your guys' experience which car makes have soft paint and which have hard paint?

Could we generalize that all Dodge paints are hard? Ford? Chevy? Honda? BMW?

What do you guys think?

I've found the German cars to have the hardest paint. I love BMW but I sure seem to work hard(er) to get one to look good. I also have a Charger and it is a breeze to polish, at least compared to the BMW's I've done.

Unfortunately you can't really make broad generalizations about paint hardness. We've seen two examples of the same make and model vehicle, one with paint that was much harder than the other. Year to year, and model to model, paint systems can and do change.

While it may be true that a lot of Japanese cars tend to softer than average paint, and we've certainly seen some that are very soft, that statement is not true for all Japanese cars. We've also seen people complain about the hardness of Audi or Mercedes paint, but then we've seen others talk about what a joy these paints are to work on.

Perhaps the only exception to this rule of "no generalizations" is the C6 Corvette - it seems everyone agrees that they have extremely hard paint.

C5 vettes also have very hard paint.

A fellow Charger detailer.. awesome! what year and color paint? what's your regime? which paint cleaners/polishes?

I've limited success on my 08 steel blue metallic paint..

i have a 06 nissan sentra and the paint is hard. i used UC by hand and it took 2-3 passes to completely remove he swirls and i love having hard paint even though swirls can still form its just nice knowing that the swirls wont form easily.
