  • As seen on TV?? headlight polishing

I was watching a television show on the horsepower channel, where Chip Foose was helping with the remake. They took the headlights and foglights off the car (a 2010 Mustang) and sanded them with 1,000 grit, then sprayed the lights with a "flat clear" which brought the lights back to perfect clarity.

I was wondering what effect this would have on a degraded headlight that needs restoration.

Have you tried anything else? Like a headlight restoration kit.

      As with anything, it depends.

If the headlight is severely oxidized it may need more thorough sanding/polishing to bring it back. See this thread for a full make over process.

On the flip side, if the haze isn't bad then our consumer Headlight Restoration Kit that utilizes PlastX and a wool pad affixed to an ordinary drill can do wonders.

Everything else will fall somewhere in between these two scenarios.

My headlights are fine, I polish them everytime I polish the car. I was just wondering.

Its an interesting idea. I wonder how hot the lights get compared to what the paint can take.

Why sand headlights of a 2010 car with a 1000 grit? Were they that bad?

May be needed for the paint to stick.

No they sprayed the lights with a tint to ever so slightly change the color and then they sprayed a satin clear on it to seal it. I was wondering about that satin clear as well for when i restore headlights for my customers so the headlight restoration last longer than putting a sealant on it.
