  • re: washing your car

    hey mike,

i had a quick question. is it ok to use the Mr. CLean auto dry to wash the car and then use the meguiars product? also if using the meguiars soap to wash the car does it make a big difference rather then using the Mr.clean autodry? if so which soap from meguiars do you recommend that gives it the best shine? will you be having a class on " The right way to washing your car"? also would like to know how you can dry your call well without leaving any streaks or spots.

    please help.

    thanks,

    kenny

I USED MEGUIARS SOAP, FORGET WHICH ONE, IT DID NOT MIX WELL WITH THE MR CLEAN SOAP THAT WAS LEFT IN THE MR CLEAN DISPENSER AND IT GLOBBED ON THE CAR AND WOULD NOT COME OFF WITH SOAP AND WATER. MY DAUGHTER AND I HAD TO USE SOME SOLVENT BASED HAND WIPES TO GET THE GOO OFF THEN WAX THE CAR. I DID NOT TRY IT AGAIN. I WOULD USE THE MR CLEAN OR HAND WASH WITH MEGUIARS.

I have heard bad things about the Mr. Clean auto dry soap in general leving a film on a vehicle, and a whole slew of other problems with it. I bought an auto dry personally to use only as a water filter, but I have a feeling it's going back on their guarantee. I, nor would meguiar's, recommend applying the soap directly to the vehicle in this way because it leaves you with no way of getting the grit off of your wash mit. Essentially you move any grit from the cars surface, then it comes off in the wash bucket lowering the risk of it scratching the surface of the car. When you do the Mr.Clean approach the wash mit has no chance to shed anything that could scratch the surface.

The preffered method is to have two buckets, one bucket has your wash soap and prefferably a grit guard insert, the other bucket has just water in it. After washing a section the mit goes in to the water bucket, and you'll be amazed how much dirt this bucket accumulates even on a relatively clean car. Then it goes in to the soap bucket to pick up more soap. Then you might use your Mr. Clean auto dry to filter some stuff out of the rinse water, however it's really not a great idea to leave any water sitting on the car anyways.

Any of Meguiar's soaps are great... I personally would say you can't go wrong with gold class car wash shampoo and conditioner.
        Later,
        Ricky
