Re: First time detail... wetsanded my car

You can probably just invest in a DA and be fine with that. I find myself reaching for the DA more than the Rotary on most details. With the right product, pad, and technique you can still get some great results.

Detailers clean places nobody see. Detailer see's things nobody else see. But if you ask a Detailer to see how a dress looks on a woman, they are blind.

And I want to do it the right way.
Your orbital is really only going to have enough to power to spread wax, and that's about it.

If you're on a budget you can usually find some good deals on ebay, and Amazon often has really good prices too. The Porter Cable 7428 rotary can usually be picked up relatively cheap and it's a very good tool. Likewise you can often find the PC 7424 D/A for killer prices too. Of course, having a D/A with some extra punch like our own G110v2 is a great idea if you plan on doing this for $$$. Compare the 7428 rotary for maybe $80-$90 to the Makita or DeWalt for double that and you may well go that route and then put the savings toward the G110v2. That will give you a great pair of tools to get serious with.

Re: First time detail... wetsanded my car

I have another question, I wet sanded the rest of my car and just started the buffing with the rotary. All i have on hand right now is meguiars ultimate compound, polish, show car glaze, paint cleaner, cleaner wax, carnauba wax, quik detailer and quik wax. I started with the UC with the wool pad, did the door twice. I then moved to the yellow foam with the paint cleaner. It got almost everything out except for some light scratches left from the sanding, they can only be seen with the right sunlight or a spotlight. How should I go about removing these. I can make an order on some meguiars products but i would like to get them out tomorrow. Can I do it with what I have? Or anything i can pick up at the local autozone or pepboys. I have two wool pads, one yellow foam, and two black foams. Will any combo of the products i have work?

I would like to ask the difference between using M105 with M83? when to use each product?

            thanks

What you're seeing is likely the limitations of Ultimate Compound, but if you managed to remove most of the sanding marks then repeated applications may still remove the remainder. If not, and for future projects, M105 will really be a far better choice.

M105 is far more aggressive than M83 and was designed for removal of sanding marks with a rotary buffer and a wool pad. M83 can remove pretty severe defects in cured paint when used with a D/A and a polishing pad, or can also be used via rotary for more intermediary polishing steps.
