What next time?

I just finished a new black car and still have a few swirls, the next time I would like to eliminate more of them.

I washed with Gold Class, clayed with Ultimate Quik Detailer, polished with a PC set on 4, with a red Lake Country pad, and SwirlX. Right/left, up/down and diagonal in small sections or panels.

Next time should I:
Use a more aggressive pad with SwirlX? or,
Use a more aggressive product, ScratchX2?

Please keep in mind this was my first time with a PC and only the second time waxing the car. I think the swirls maybe part of the famous dealer installed swirls option I've read so much about.

Go with a white pad with SwirlX first. It should be what you're looking for. If not, then white pad with ScratchX

I have to agree with the others, white pad. From personal experience with a rotary and lake country pads any serious paint correction starts with the white polishing pad and the orange pad is the answer for deep swirls and holograms.

If you do not have a white LC pad, I would consider getting the Meguiar's Softbuff yellow polishing pad instead.

I have used both the white LC & yellow Meguiar's and like the Meguiar's pads better.

The number one thing I would suggest is doing test spots and deciding what works for you then and there.

Although several people may have had luck with combination X and Y on their own vehicles, one can never know what to expect with each unique paint job.

Try different combinations and work your way to more aggressive combinations until you achieve the results you want IN A SMALL test spot - THEN replicate the process on the entire vehicle.

Just learning high quality car care, I started as suggested with the least aggressive techniques/products and on the "aggressiveness" chart Lake Country red and gold were least aggressive. I used the red for SwirlX and gold with Gold Class liquid wax.

I will try the LC white or the Meguiars' next time around.

I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure Ultimate Quik Detailer is not recommended for claying. I would go with last touch diluted 1:1 or the regular quik detailer.

red and gold pads are great for gold class but might not be agressive enough to be efficient with swirlX

Follow Marks advice. For instance.....on my wifes old Suby, I could use Megs #9 and the yellow Megs pad and get almost complete correction. But on my truck, it didn't even hardly make a dent in the swirls.

I am almost certain that J.A. Michaels is correct and UQD is not recommended for clay lubrication. I recently switched from regular QD to 1:1 Last Touch but both seem to work fine.

Too much lubrication, making claying ineffectual?

A film is left, which contains contaminates from claying?

I haven't used QD, so for all I know it "feels" like UQD.

I am not entirely sure why it is not recommended. I think one issue is that clay helps to remove previously applied products and UQD has wax/sealer type stuff in it. Also, why use a more expensive product for lube? Again, someone else can probably better answer the "why" but I have read UQD is not recommended for lube.
