  • I need help before I order.

Okay, I gave my family (my parents and my in-laws) a free complete detail for each of their cars for Christmas. They loved it as they all desperately need paint correction. So I was going to order from ADS. I just need a little help.

First I was going to order M105 and M205 (not sure which size to start with) and also M07. I have wash, smooth surface clay, and all the GC trim and interior stuff and M16. The question is which size should I start with and is there anything else that is recommended?

Second, I need to get pads for my PC 7424. Now, I read that the Softbuff 2.0 polishing and compounding pads were recommended and that I need a backing plate, however, I notice on the PC where you screw in the plate that it says to use 5.5" pads only. Since I am changing backing plates is it okay to step up to the 6.5" pad since this appears to be the smallest size offered at ADS?

If anyone can think of anything that is not offered over the counter that I may want to consider please let me know.

Thanks in advance for all of the help!

Think about how much you're doing to be doing cars. I don't know how long a 12 oz bottle would last you. 3-4 cars maybe? And 6.5" pads should be fine.

        1. Depends how bad the cars are.... In theory, you would use more #205 than #105, unless the cars are in bad shape. But I think a quart of each would certainly be a start. Not like you will be doing everyone in one day if you run low.

        2. The Soft Buff 2.0 pads are washable, which is nice. But they are getting bigger, and you (like me) have an older, slightly less powerfull machine. I am not quite sure how the new pads work on the older machines, if it works as well, or if you shold try to stick with the original Soft Buff pads.

Thanks guys. I think I will get the quart size. I will be doing quite a few vehicles and really don't want to have to order twice and waste money on shipping. I'll go with the 6.5 pads as well. I do like the smaller pads that came with the machine as they let me get into a bit tighter spaces.

          Thanks again!

I believe smaller pads are being introduced, just have to watch for when the new 2010 products come out.

Unless the cars in question are single stage paint, like in the old days, I don't see where the MO7 will be worth the money. If you do a nice job
of finishing with the 205 you won't notice much more with the glaze, certainly not enough to justify the extra time and money spent.
