I finally picked up some M105 today and let me tell you.... the right tool for the right job makes all the difference!
But first, claying..... I'm working on a white SUV that the owner has kept fairly clean but I'm sure it's never been detailed before. Most important part of the job was the claying. I'd say that this was 90% of the job. It removed most of the imperfections in the paint. Since it's white, the scratches are not easy to see but everything on the paint shows up like a sore thumb. I did take some video of the results. The sound did not come out as good as I wanted but if you listen carefully, you can hear the difference:

Now to the polishing phase. I started to use an orange LC pad with M205 and then tried Ultimate Compound. While it looked much more glossy, the scratches were still present. This has been the case in most of the vehicles I've worked on. I did not know what I was doing wrong. So I decided to pick up some M105. Let me tell you... a WORLD of difference! In one pass almost all of the scratches were removed. I did not need to work the product that hard and I did not really need to finish it up with anything else. I'm sure following it up with M205 would help a little but I'm just doing this as a favor to a friend who left her car at my house for 3 weeks.
