  • Question about clay

I recently had a conversation with a Megs rep about clay lubricant, he told me to only use detailer but theres alot of people that cut their detailer to 50-50 with water or water with a couple of drops of gold class/nxt soap, i always clay with water and a bit of soap after rinsing the car and before the drying stage, and havent had any kind of isues, i personaly dont see any diference when using the detailer vs water, besides saving money for other products instead of detailer... i would like to know whats better?

    50-50 detailer/water?
    or water/drops of soap?
    if none, why?

i would like some experts from Megs to chime in.... thankss!!

    Re: Question about clay

I personally use last touch diluted 50/50. I haven't use the soap and water or just plain water. I do know some that use the soap and water with little or no issues. I am under the impression from reading the forums for quite awhile that just plain water will make the clay break down quicker therefore limiting it's usage.

Our recommendation for clay lube is either Quik Detailer or Last Touch diluted 1:1 with water. Having said that, a lot of people have used a mild soapy water solution with little or no issue but soap can, over time, cause clay to break down. That doesn't mean it will always happen, it just means that our recommendation for optimum, consistent results is to use the products mentioned.

Potential downsides to using a soapy water solution:
      • Not enough soap may mean not enough lubricity
      • Too much soap may mean too much lubricity
      • You'll likely need to wash the car again after claying with a soap solution - not always, but probably

Keep in mind we aren't saying "you MUST do it this way or your paint will fall off" or some other such nonsense - it's just our recommendation for optimum, predictable results. By the same token, if someone is using a product different than we recommend, or using a technique that varies from what we teach, and they're getting good results and are happy with those results, it's really hard for us to say that's wrong. We will jump in and be pretty vocal if we think someone is doing something that has a high probability of causing damage.

i used to you use just plain clean water...it does work...however i noticed after claying with just water the contaminents were still there, not as heavily, but still there..i switched to quick detailer and the contaminents are gone..if you clay enough times you will learn how to save and conserve your quick detailer...really your best is to buy last touch...its only 17 dollars...and it makes 2 gallons of clay lube..for 17 bucks..thats less than nxt tech wax ! its really worth it..and it will last you forever...plus last touch leaves such a nice gloss

What speed said. Last Touch can be had for $15/gallon. Mixed 1:1 is $15 for 2 gallons. This will clay a _lot_ of vehicles!

              Re: Question about clay

I generally use the Last Touch diluted 1:1 for claying. Never had any issues. I have the type of luck, that if I used water, my clay would disenegrate. Lol
