  • How to Remove Holograms ?

Hey guys, i know i read up on how to remove holograms before i just cant remember the method and product to use and i am having a hard time finding the thread again, so i am going to just post this..a week or so ago i did a touch up on a little rock chip on the front fender..after wetsanding the area i used ultimate compound to get rid of the sanding marks...it works extraordinary well..however, today i realized it left a nice hologram in the small area i worked on..how do you get this out again ? id take a picture but its dark out now. so for normal procedure what would you do ?

please list a few products that will work and i'll see if i have them

    very much appreciated.

Might, really depends but #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 is a very very mild product. Something I use for finishing purposes not correction, but hey that's me

Do you have any other product?

Well M07 nor DC2 will work as they are pure polish.
Fine Cut Cleaner, UC and ScratchX 2.0 will work

Just try the less aggressive first and go from there. Are you working with a DA?

I do have a DA...you said UC would work, why would i use UC to clear up these holograms after i used UC and it left the holograms ? or are the holograms results from wetsanding ?

I just finished going over my entire car with Ultimate Compound and a rotary buffer and needless to say, I ended up with holograms in a few places. I'm in the process of going over the entire car again with Ultimate Compound and a random orbital buffer. It seems to be taking care of the holograms so far, but that all the lights I have to work with are two halogen lamps, one incandescent bulb and one LED hand torch. Surprisingly, the LED hand torch lights up the holograms fairly well if you hold it just above your eyes with the light reflecting directly back to you as you move across the paint. I won't know the full results until the weather clears up and I can get the car out into some sun.

The other day I used UC by hand to remove holograms and really small scratches and it did a very nice job (was used on black car) If you used UC on your DA and was left with holograms, try to use Scratch X on your DA which is less aggressive.

Maybe holograms are not caused by UC but by the technique of using the rotary. You can use UC with the polishing pad on a rotary and remove defects and see holograms and you can come back with UC with the DA and a polishing pad and get a perfect defect free finish.
