  • Best Buffing Tool

I have a 6 year old 10 inch orbital buffer and use cotton pads to detail my car. Right now, I'm looking at getting a new buffer, but I can't decide what the best option would be.

Should I get another orbital buffer or switch over to another type? What buffing tool do you think gives the best results with using such products as Ultimate Compound, SwirlX, DC Polish, and NXT 2.0 wax?

If you're on a budget, can't go wrong with the new Meguiars G110v2.

The new Meguiar's DA, the G110v2 seems very promising, if you are thinking on changing I think I would consider this very much!

In the forum you can find Joe (Superior Shine) and Kevin Brown say about this machine since they've used it and they are both professionals and very credible, I personally trust them

I'd even suggest an older G110 or a G100 if you are really on a budget.

I might just go with the g110 v2 then. I like the various speeds and the different pads depending on the job. Before, I was just using 1 speed and 1 type of pad to strip, polish, and wax.

I've been looking around at prices and found this bundle set. Is this the best deal? Or does anyone know of a better deal?

G110 V2 all the way. ADS has a sweet package for under 200.00 that will take care of the weekend warrior.

That set is an excellent package. Has just about everything you need to get started. If you are doing a fair amount of work in a short amount of time, you would need some more pads.

Is this all I would need?

                  -g110 v2 buffer
-soft buff 2.0 cutting pad, polishing pad, and finishing pad

What size pads would I need? Also, how long do these pads last?

                    Re: Best Buffing Tool

7 inch pads are the right size for this, correct? Or can any size fit this buffer.

I buff 3 cars usually once or twice a year, so how long can I make the soft buff 2.0 pads last? I liked the cotton pads because they don't wear out for a long time and they're cheap. These foam pads are $10 a piece so I'd hate to use them once and have to buy new ones.

Please keep in mind that a kmart bought orbital buffer does nothing more then apply LSP (Last Step Product). A DA, such as mentioned in this thread can also do paint correction (take out minor scratches and swirls). The foam pads can be washed and reused and should last for years and years. They are far different then a terry cloth slip on that comes with an orbital buffer.

Or is there another buffing pad you all recommend? I need a balance of quality and longevity.

This really helped, thanks. So are you saying that my old buffer just applies the product and its the product that removes swirls and scratches, but not my old buffer? So then a DA would actually help in paint correction rather than just apply a product.

This is the one I'm talking about......

I don't know your budget but there are a couple more there that are worth every penny.

As far as the new 2.0 pads go, durability is not an issue. I have 4 that are months old and have seen a LOT of paint. They also get washed in the washing machine and then air dried as recommended. They are still doing fine. So for you, they should last forever......or close to it!
