  • 2 Questions about products

    1. Which products have fillers? (I may want some Megs products with heavy fillers -- if Megs even makes anything like that)

    2. Difference between Quick Interior Detailer and Supreme/Natural Shine Protectant? (latter says it has some cleaning ability, too..)

    Re: 2 Questions about products

    1. Anyt product that leaves something behind on the surface can act as a filler. So any product with wax or polishing oils would be included. I do recall seeing Nxt advertised as hiding swirls well.

    2. The QID will be more cleaning ability, less coating left behind.

      Re: 2 Questions about products

      1. So some of those pure polishes/glazes (ie. #5, #7) might be the way to go?

      2. So basically QID is like the "cleaner" to get all the **** off and Supreme/Natural Protectant is like the "wax" to protect what you've cleaned? (read something about UV protection..)

Also, what's the coldest recommended temp to do an exterior detail? Well, wash can be anytime, but more towards clay, cleaner/wax, and wax. Isn't it like 55 F or something..?

        Re: 2 Questions about products

        1. That could help.

        2. Yeah... You can apply the Protectants to a slighlty dirty surface, but of course it will be best cleaned off first. Now the original QID you can use as a duster, and it wouldnt remove the protectant. Dull it a little, but not bad. I dont know what the new one will do, since it is stronger.

        3. 55 is good for a general recomendation to have products work best. But no law you cant go colder, just dont expect things to be perfect. I have Cleaner/Waxed in the 40's when needed, and working in the sun can help. But probably had some streaks, etc. Clay may be hard when cold.

          Re: 2 Questions about products

          2. If there's just a little dust, could I not just re-use the protectant spray? I have Natural Shine but don't have QID. Just wondering if I needed to go out and buy it or not.

          3. And I thought doing anything under the sun was bad? Or does that have to do with the sun heating up the car too much... So basically working under the sun would be more beneficial in colder temperature but there shouldn't be any harm by it.

            Re: 2 Questions about products

            2. Well, the way I do things... With a Protectant, I would apply it, wait 5 min, and come back to wipe off. So a light dusting would be at least 5 min quicker...

            3. Yes, exactly. The surface temp is what matters most. So in a cool/cold/damp situation, the sun can help warm things a little.

              2. Every so often, I do use APC for a good wipedown as well before using a protectant.

                      Re: 2 Questions about products

Gosh, we almost feel like we're intruding on a PM session here!

Let's just clarify something about pure polishes and products with heavy fillers. Pure polishes, sometimes called glazes, were originally designed to be gloss enhancers when applied to a perfectly prepared surface. Because of the nature of the ingredients they also do fill pretty darn well, which is why body shops will so often apply a glaze after rotary buffing - it hides the buffer trails very well! This filling ability is not the design intent of the product, however, it's merely a by product of it.

NXT and Gold Class do a decent job of hiding very fine swirls because they are polish/waxes, meaning they contain some ingredients that are similar to what is found in a pure polish/glaze. Not as much, of course, and perhaps not the exact same ingredients, but they are there. Remember though, polish/waxes offer protection to the finish, a pure polish/glaze does not.

Cool, thanks for the info! I knew the glazes make the cars glisten, just wasn't sure if they fill or not.

NXT 2.0 Tech wax deff hides swirls a lot better...i have minor swirls in my paint, i am waiting for the winter to pass till i do paint correction..however upon my winter prep for the car i used NXT 2.0 and it hid the swirls pretty darn nice..i was so shocked.

Good! I'm planning a quick detail this weekend using NXT as my LSP! I hope my results show the same!

it deff will...i have a black car too and the results are amazing...the best way i can describe it, is that it, in a way, "greys" the swirls out..it sorta blends them in so its harder to see unless you look really close up to find them.
