Does Meguiars swirl remover products actually "remove" the clear coat?

In other words, if I used the swirl remover products too much, would it penetrate the clear coat and eventually hit the paint layer?

The reason I ask is because when people use these products they refer to the term "cut"

I assume "cut" means cut into the paint??

When a paint renovation detailer uses this term it really means that they are going to be abrading the surrounding paint area that that contains the defect (scratch, swirls, surface marring, etching, pitting, etc.) It is possible to remove a scratch by abrading the clear coat to a lower level then the base of the scratch, which will remove clear coat, just be aware of how much you remove, as you don’t want to compromise the paint systems protection.

What makes a scratch visible is that it makes the paint surface two-dimensional and the light reflects from the microscopic fissures and scratches differently from the rest of the paint surface

The short answer is yes, every time you use an abrasive product you are removing paint. To remove defects like scratches (swirls or RIDS) you'll have to remove paint to correct this.

What do you mean by a lot? 2 times? 3 times? 150 times?

Always keep in mind, and this is said a lot on this forum, always start with the least abrasive/aggressive product, because you'll remove the defects but removing as less paint as possible.

A mild product won't harm the state of the clear coat, even if you use it various times. I've polished my 2006 car a couple of times, maybe like 7 times even using products like M105 (the most aggressive product Meguiar's has) plus 3 times on body shops (and they usually are very very very aggressive) and I still have no problems at all.
