  • shiniest black ever!!!

An opinion question. For a black vehicle, which meg's wax would produce the deepest, shiniest look? Paint is in excellent shape, swirl free etc. I have used NXT 2.0 before, has nice look, but wondering if some other product would be better. I have also topped 2.0 with DC3 carnauba. Also protection not an issue, looks only.
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?

Deepest- Meguiar's #26 High Tech Yellow. Shiniest- NXT 2.0.

That is my opinion, of course. I personally think NXT 2.0 makes it more reflective, but M26 makes it look a mile deep, like it could absorb the sun. I say you give it a go and see what you prefer. Cannot go wrong with either, IMO.

I agree with Golden and Murr. In my opinion black looks amazing with some #7 topped with 26.

In a more consumer line kind of thing, I would use DC2 + GC. I also have a black car and love that combination.

          Good luck!

What sort of prep work are you doing before applying any wax? Without proper prep work to remove all the fine swirls and other below surface defects, as well as claying to remove above surface bonded contaminants, you'll never truly achieve the maximum from any finish. If you do the prep work properly it's amazing how incredible a black car can look before you even apply the wax! If you haven't been doing much prep work you might want to read through our 5 Step Paint Care Cycle for some more info.

The final look, however, tends to be something of a personal choice. As others have mentioned, M07 (a pure polish) followed by M26 (a pure wax) is a very popular choice for dark colors. But NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 (a polish wax/sealant) also looks amazing on black. And there there are those who like to combine the two, putting down a coat of NXT and then topping it with M26. That's the crazy thing about personal choices though - they're so personal!

I was absolutely amazed at how good Gold Class looks on my black vehicle. Pity it doesn't last as long as NXT.

...But it looks better on black IMO.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Well, last winter my wife decided to clean ice off the ENTIRE vehicle with an ice scraper. So this past spring I clayed, compounded using a turtle wax product(since then I have become an exclusive user of Meg's), paint cleaner, DC2, followed by NXT 2.0, then DC3 just to see if the carnauba made a difference. I was EXTREMELY pleased with the results, I've just seen different results on black paint, not neccesarily better!

I've become an M20 fan of late. I plan on doing a M20 + M26 combo for my spring detail.

What is it you like about the M20? The look? The protection? The feel? All of it? Is it easy to use?

It's prep work that counts. If you look through all of the pictures of my Mustang, the paint pretty much looks the same in every one (it's shiny black, lol). The waxes range from the consumer cleaner wax to M26 to NXT 2.0 to Gold Class...

With a fresh wet sanding, buffing and polishing would it still be necessary to do the claying etc? I mean if the last product to touch the finish before the polishing and waxing is 205 using the machine buffer is claying still necessary (I know it's a polish but I plan to buff with 105 then 205 before the wax).

Claying removes above surface bonded contaminants - all the fallout crud that sticks to the paint over time and makes it feel rough to the touch. If you're working on a project that involves wet sand, cut and buff you probably won't have a need for clay. Unless of course you plan on doing this to a neglected finish, in which case you may want to clay before you start sanding. From your description, however, it sounds like clay is not going to be needed.
