is it possible to wash/wax your car too much?

i currently wash & wax my car once a week, even though it isn't very dirty. but it's become a habit and routine

will i damage the paintwork if i wash it once a week? it adds up to 52 times a year...

Currently i am using ArmorAll but i am considering doing this with Meguiars Gold Class Wash and then Gold Class Wax.

i have a clear coat metallic dark green paint

    It won't do harm.
I usually wash my car once a week as well, or I try if time let's me. Waxing, I think it's a "waste" of product since you still have a protective layer on the surface of the vehicle. I suggest using a product like UQD (Ultimate Quik Detailer) or UQW (Ultimate Quik Wax) that are great products for in between washes, less time consuming and does an incredible job

      thanks

      just two questions:

would you suggest I use Meguiars Gold Class Car Wash every week?

and use the Meguiars Gold Class Liquid Wax how often?

Anytime you touch the paint, you do risk adding swirls though. So if it doesnt need it, you might not want to do it.

I think it is a bit much. That is why they make quik Detailers. For when your car just has a light coat of dust or fingerprints.

I wash my car twice a week, but my car sits outside 24/7.

My truck sits outside 24/7 as well, and I usually take it on long drives over the weekend to do some fishing which means it gets covered in bugs. I try to wash it every week. Washing it weekly is not a problem as long as you do it properly.

Waxing it every week is not necessary though, a quick detailer is what you need.

                Re: washing too much?

As said above, the more you touch your paint and rub on it, the worse you're finish will actually become. I try not to touch my truck more than what I have to. Rubbing on you paint too much will lead to swirls, which than cause more work down the road when you're buffing. As for waxing, if you apply it right the first time it should last at least 2 months. QW can be applied in between waxes, but no need for a full wax that often.

Live in a dusty area and wash my car two times a week.
Wish i did not have to do this so often, what i dislike the most is hidden water in the joints that could tend to rust.
Driving for a few minutes after a wash helps the dry the brake rotors (they rust fast) it also removes most of the hidden water from joints.

i have that some problem too...my car has too many cracks and creases where water likes to hide...i use a leaf blow to blast the air out of these cracks..works like a charm

re: washing too much? - no, but WAXING too much

As other have said, a LIGHT weekly washing (carefully hand done using dual-bucket method or using grit-guard) should be fine if it needs it, else just a Quick-Detailer should also be fine.

Weekly waxing is not a good idea. The wax itself is fine, but the rubbing of real-wax application and again for removal is just asking for swirls or scratches. A LIGHT spray-wax (booster-wax) after weekly washing is much more suitable.

Keep in mind that if you use a proper cars-wash soap then it wont remove your wax, it will just lift the surface dirt, which is why weekly waxing is not needed. If you wash weekly with a harsh detergent you are undoing all your good work.

                        Re: washing too much?

I try to wash my car at least twice a month, but it's not a hard or fast rule. It depends on what the car needs. I usually do a no rinse wash (using Mark Kleis' Last Touch method) between regular two bucket washes. Sometimes I no-rinse wash my car two weeks in a row before giving it a full wash - but again, my decision for which type of wash is dependent on how dirty my car's finish becomes.
