  • Carpet cleaning with APC: Dwell time?

Am in the process of cleaning up some pretty crungy carpet in the back of my Hatchback using the procedure at the bottom of this post.

After misting on the APC, not sure about "dwell time".
(Not talking about stains, but for the entire section being cleaned.)

Procedure I am copying by rote:

    -After vacuuming,
-Mist on APC 10:1 (step #4, below)....
    -Immediately scrub using hot water (#5 & #6) ...
    -Immediately removing the product (#7 & 8).

I am not rushing, not soaking the carpet, paying attention, but not adding anything, including a dwell time, because the procedure doesn't specifically mention it. First timer, maybe overcautious.

It really works well, but, requires a second pass and I am not sure if letting APC dwell for 2, 5, 10 minutes....??? will damage something or be a waste of time.

    Copying this procedure:
    .
    .
    .
    4. Mist APC over area

    5. Dip scrub brush in HOT water, shake off excess

    6. SCRUB

    7. VAC

    8. Wipe area with clean terry towel

Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts.

No need to let dwell unless treating stains.

    Mist and scrub

Also a optional secret ingredient is missing, When you mix up your APC add 1or 2 oz of Tide laundry detergent, it adds cleaning power and really makes the vehicle smell clean and fresh.

I like the adding Tide idea, but would you factor the 1 or 2oz into the dilution ratio or just add it in on top?

I add on top and I have used this adder for the last 15 years and customers always comment on how clean the interiors smell I have never used air fresheners or any kind of scents.

Are we talking about adding an oz or two of liquid tide to the APC solution in the spray bottle or adding it to the hot water in the bucket? Am I correct in thinking that you're using the liquid version rather than trying to dissolve the powder for this process?

Do you use the same APC/Tide mix on the hard surfaces as well (dash for instance) or do you keep a separate mix w/o it for that purpose or do you use some other chemical all together?

@Jossy92- Didn't mean to hijack your thread, but this is such an intersting idea I couldn't resist finding out more. Hope you don't mind

For hard surfaces the APC alone is enough power to clean those. I keep separate bottles mixed for 1. Stains 2. Carpet cleaning 3. Engine Bay 4 G.P.Cleaning
