  • which paint cleaner to use

Hi, I will be working on a Mercedes-benz Nano-clearcoat paint finish, I am after some advice on what surface prep. product to use out of Swirl X, Scratch X 2.0 or Ultimate Compound, the paint is literally full of light swirls and hazes, I am keen on Swirl X

I will be working by hand, therefore i will prefer the product to remove a large amount of blemishes on first application, also as the paint is the Nano clearcoat, would that have any effect?, less abrasive is preferable,

i would be gratefull for any advice..thanks

I would purchase a bottle of SwirlX and a bottle of Ultimate Compound. Then do a test spot with SwirlX: How to do a Test Spot. Examine the test spot. Did the SwirlX effect the level of paint correction that you desire? If yes, then polish the rest of the car. If not, then do a test spot with Ultimate Compound. Examine the spot. How does it look? If all is well, then polish the car with UC. UC often (usually?) leaves the paint LSP-ready; but in some cases one needs to follow-it up with SwirlX in order to remove any marring or hazing the compound might have left behind.

It is important to do a test spot first. This allows you both to determine which product is best for your paint system and to refine your application technique.

    Good luck!

would Scratch X 2.0 be a sensible purchase, as it is i guess in the middle abrasive scale, do you think i should be safe with it instead of buying two bottles, because i have heard that UC in some cases leaves light marring, as it is very abrasive, but obvioiusly still a great product.

That paint could be tough to get far with by hand. You might need to have everything to try, and still might not get too far.

You could pick up ScratchX 2.0 if you want to, but Ultimate Compound and SwirlX would be the more ideal choice for using on the entire car.
