  • Is this redundant?

Okay, so I just finished claying my car. I'm gonna take a break for dinner (it's in the garage so it's cool) but then I was going to use SwirlX and maybe some spots with Ult. Compound. I was then going to use the DC step 2 polish but I'm getting the idea that this would be redundant since I'll be using the SwirlX. Is that correct?

Also, I unfortunately only have the cheapo pads that come with my Porter Cable 7424. Are they going to suffice until I can get some soft buff 2.0 pads for Xmas?

My overall plan is to put 2 coats of NXT 2.0 down followed by a coat or maybe 2 of M16.

SwirlX and DC2 are two different things. DC2 is a pure polish and is adding oils to the paint which will increase the gloss and wet look of the paint. So no, this isn't redundant.

While I have no experience using the supplied white polishing pad, I've heard of people using them without problems. I would recommend doing a test spot to see if the results you are looking for can be achieved. If it looks good to you, that's all that matters.

This may be overkill since there is a point of diminishing returns when it comes to layering. One of each should be great.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
