  • Old Wax

I was looking over my paint after hitting with some UQD and noticed some areas on the front and back quarter panel that look liked raised areas. I think it may be some left over wax that didn't get buffed off the last time I got it washed. They are liner and hard and definitely above the surface of the clear coat and I am unable to scratch off with my fingernail What is the best way to get it off? Rubbing alcohol, clay, UC It has recently been waxed at the local detail center but after seeing the crappy job they did, I can do it better with some tech wax and a little TLC.

Second question....How meticulous do I need to be with the top of a tall SUV. I am short and even with a ladder have a hard time with it.

    1. Yeah, try clay and your paint cleaner. Thats the best place to start. Though UC may be a bit strong to jump right to.

    2. Well, you only have to do what you want. But the roof and hood will definately take the most abuse, so it is good to do your best to take care of them. Depending on what steps you were thinking of doing, you could just cleaner/wax and wax the roof, clay a litle less often, etc on the roof.

After educating myself a bit more the UC does seem a little bit aggressive. What would be a better choice? SwirlX or ScratchX or something else?

To have a "complete" range on your shelf, SwirlX would be the starting point, and UC or #105 would be the stronger product.

Obviously you could just buy the milder product, and just get the stonger one if/when needed. Ideally, you would use the milder product most of the time, and not have to 'repair' things with strong products too much.
