  • WD-40 vs. NXT for winter chrome protection?

I just read a short article in a motorcyle magazine which suggests spraying WD-40 on the shiny stuff to protect a bike that is pretty much stored for the winter from the corrosion that that can occur from the condensation that collects on surfaces during periods of cold and high humidity. (I've had it happen in what I thought was a very clean and dry garage.)

Right now I have both of my Harleys well waxed with NXT. Would fogging the chrome and polished aluminum surfaces protect them more. I know that the WD-40 would protect areas that I can't get to with the NXT. I also know that I'd have to wipe off the WD-40 before riding the bikes.

    Hi Tom,

I'm a big believer in "Something is better than nothing" and as such, anything that will prevent metal from deteriorating is better than nothing.

For the parts you can reach, I would recommend, NXT Generation All Metal Polysh

As for the parts you can't reach, that will be judgment call, but something is better than nothing.

WD40 will attract dust and look like ****, and if gets wet enough the protection will wash off with water.
